Job Description

Corvid's Goldbug Manufacturing group is looking for a detail-oriented and financially focused manufacturing professional to work as our Project Estimator. If you know your way around a manufacturing floor, understand how things are built, and have a knack for crunching numbers, this is the role for you. You will bridge the gap between our customers, our sales team, and our production floor. Your primary goal will be to translate customer requests, blueprints, and ideas into accurate, competitive cost estimates for materials, labor, and outside services.

The experienced professional in this role will bring a macrolevel understanding of the costs related to manufacturing a variety of products, from early prototypes to volume production runs. The candidate will support estimating efforts requiring CNC machining, mechanical assembly, laser, Waterjet and EDM as well as some larger fabrication/welding efforts. The ability to speak to multiple stakeholders and contributors, understand their specific contributions to the project, and build accurate cost estimates. Understanding for labor time (routings), material usage, scrap rates, and machine time required to complete a job – and the various nuances of the production effort, will help the candidate ensure we are accurately predicting our costs and pricing efforts accordingly.

Responsibilities:

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: work across engineering, the shop floor, and the finance department to ensure estimates are manufacturable, realistic, and aligned with company profitability goals
  • Blueprint & Spec Review: Interpret customer drawings, 3D models, and technical specifications to determine the scope of work and manufacturing feasibility
  • Cost Calculation: Build accurate estimates for labor time (routings), material usage, scrap rates, and machine time required to complete a job
  • Bill of Materials (BOM) Creation: Translate quotes into preliminary BOMs and production routings within our system
  • Vendor Quoting: Contact suppliers and outside processing vendors (e.g., for plating, heat treating, or specialty materials) to obtain current pricing and lead times
  • Sales Support: Partner with the sales team to explain technical details, pricing breakdowns, and potential cost-saving alternatives to customers
  • Post-Project Review: Compare estimated costs to actual production costs to help the team continuously improve estimating accuracy

Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be a US Citizen
  • High School Diploma and at least 3 years in manufacturing estimating, production planning, or a closely related technical role (post-secondary education or relevant training is plus)
  • Strong ability to read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints and manufacturing specifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of the variables related to manufacturing costs, including labor, materials, machine time, scrap rates, vendor management, etc.
  • Solid understanding of shop math, geometric tolerances, material yields, and conversions
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel (building and using formulas) and experience using ERP/MRP systems or dedicated quoting software
