Position Summary: The Estimating Manager is the department leader and Subject Matter Expert responsible for overseeing the development of highly accurate, competitive, and risk-aware cost estimates for commercial roofing projects. This role manages the estimating workflow, ensures the integrity of advanced cost modeling, and drives strategic bid development to guarantee RRA’s proposals are profitable, rigorously reviewed, and aligned with client expectations.

The Estimating Manager is responsible for departmental oversight, including establishing best practices, standardizing estimating software usage, and providing mentorship to the estimating team. Beyond technical leadership, this role plays a critical part in preconstruction planning, field coordination, and cross-departmental communication. As the head of RRA’s dual-track estimating structure, the Estimating Manager is responsible for team development, workload distribution, and the successful recruitment and training of both Senior and Estimator-level roles.

 

The Blueprint for Success - Key Responsibilities: 

Departmental Leadership & Strategy

  • Oversee the department’s estimating pipeline, assigning projects to team members and ensuring all bids are completed accurately and on schedule.

  • Establish and maintain organizational standards for estimating, including uniform templates, naming conventions, and bid submission protocols.

  • Champion and manage the implementation of digital takeoff tools, specialized software, and data-driven systems to modernize and scale the estimating workflow.

  • Provide direct guidance and professional development to Estimators and junior staff, serving as the final point of escalation for complex problem-solving.

  • Monitor project "Estimated vs. Actual" performance and feedback from the field to refine future estimating accuracy.

Estimation, Risk & Profitability

  • Assess complex project documents and specifications to prepare or approve precise cost estimates for large-scale commercial roofing systems.

  • Conduct advanced profitability modeling and identify project-specific risks or hidden costs, providing clear briefings to leadership on competitive positioning.

  • Lead value-engineering initiatives to provide clients with cost-effective alternatives without compromising system integrity.

  • Direct in-depth research on labor, material, and production costs while maintaining a master database of historical cost data and production metrics.

  • Oversee the solicitation and analysis of manufacturer and supplier quotes, leveraging volume and relationships to ensure competitive pricing.

Field Operations & Site Verification

  • Lead or delegate roof surveys and site inspections to verify field conditions, materials, and scope.

  • Ensure that onsite evaluations capture accurate measurements and identify physical risk factors that could impact production.

  • Lead the preconstruction handoff process to ensure the Operations team receives an accurate and detailed project file with all necessary technical details and cost assumptions.

Communication & Stakeholder Engagement

  • Prepare and present cost breakdowns and bid packages to clients, explaining complex cost drivers, assumptions, and scope nuances.

  • Attend internal and external production meetings to maintain alignment on quality, safety, schedule, and profitability goals.

  • Support project managers with clarifications, updates, and technical details throughout the project lifecycle.

  • Additional duties as needed.

Requirements

Tools for the Job: 

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, or a related field or experience  

  • Minimum of 5 years of progressive experience in commercial construction, estimating, or preconstruction coordination.

  • Proven experience leading and managing teams to foster a collaborative environment. . 

  • Proven, extensive experience in commercial roofing estimating with successful bid results on complex or large-scale projects.

  • Demonstrated experience managing high-volume estimating pipelines, bid schedules, and construction document control.

  • Excellent communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization. 

  • Mathematical and problem-solving skills, with a focus on profitability modeling and risk mitigation.

Preferred:

  • A valid certification, like Certified Professional Estimator (CPE)

  • Experience conducting detailed roof surveys and working on ladders/rooftops safely.

  • Multi-site national account experience strongly preferred.
