Job Description

CDL Driver



Primary Objective of the CDL Driver




  • Perform daily checklists on vehicles before driving them to ensure that mechanical, safety, and emergency equipment is in good working order, report vehicle defects or damage to the vehicles. 

  • Maintain logs of working hours and of vehicle service and repair status, following applicable state and federal regulations 

  • Obtain receipts or signatures when loads are delivered and collect payment for services when required. 

  • Check all load-related documentation (including bills of lading) to ensure that it is complete and accurate. 

  • Maneuver trucks into loading or unloading positions, following signals from loading crew as needed; check that vehicle position is correct and any special loading equipment is properly positioned. Operate hydraulic lift gates safely. 

  • Secure cargo for transport, using wedges and straps. Ensure safety when inspecting. 

  • Drive trucks to weigh stations along routes, to comply with state regulations. 

  • Use cellphones to exchange information with supervisors or other drivers. Ensure hands free communication while operating vehicle. 

  • Perform basic vehicle maintenance including adding oil, fuel, and radiator fluid, or performing minor repairs. 

  • Load and unload trucks with a moffitt, help others with loading and unloading, operating any powered equipment on vehicles and using other equipment as necessary. 

  • Perform Lumber returns from Jobsites back to location. 

  • May be required to manually carry loads inside residences. 

  • Responsible for following all safety rules and policies as outlined by the DOT and communicated by Bliffert Lumber.management. 

  • Responsible for following all general housekeeping practices as communicated by manager.



Primary Responsibilities of the CDL Driver




  • Practice and perform excellent service for all customers. 

  • Protects company values by keeping financial information and plans confidential. 

  • Report Injuries to manager immediately. 

  • Drive safely and responsibly, immediately report any accidents or traffic violations. 

  • Additional job responsibilities to be determined by Manager. 

  • Sorting, stocking, and moving lumber and building materials in all types of weather and terrain. 

  • Fill orders. 

  • Loading supplies for customers 

  • Operate power tools, saws, and chainsaws. 

  • Read special orders from salespeople. 

  • Read instructions from supervisors or salespeople in handling customer requests and safety procedures in the workplace. 



Requirements of the CDL Driver




  • Read carefully the products labels, warnings, and directions posted in the products and warehouse. 

  • Complete inventory sheets. 

  • Read invoices and orders. 

  • Read and follow work schedules. 

  • Enter number entries in loading sheets. 

  • Look in the charts for the weights of forklifts that can carry and lift.

  • Must have FedMed Card.

  • Must have a valid CDL
