Job Description

International San Antonio participates as a supporting board member on the Texas Federation for Advanced Manufacturing Education (FAME) organization and has the option to sponsor students each year in the program. Employer participation with the local Texas FAME organization supports the talent pipeline for developing skilled workers in the local community. Texas FAME is an industry-led organization where board members are professionals from leading companies in the manufacturing field.


The student will attend class 2 days a week while spending 2 days working at International. This is an “Earn while you Learn” model . The Student Maintenance Technician will learn Technical Skills, Electricity, Robotics, Fluid Power, Mechanics, PLCs & Industrial Troubleshooting. Manufacturing Core Exercises include Safety Culture, Visual Workplace Organization, Lean Manufacturing, Problem Solving & Machine Reliability. Professional Behaviors will focus on Attendance, Initiative, Diligence, Interpersonal Relations, Teamwork & Communication. The purpose of this program is for the Student Maint Tech to graduate and place into a Maintenance Technician I level position.

  • Active, participating student in the Texas FAME Advanced Manufacturing Technician program
  •  Attend class two days per week and work on site two days per week
  •  Demonstrate overall safe work behavior, including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adherence to safety guidelines
  •  Work on hydraulic and pneumatic systems, paint and engine fluid process control systems, roll formers, plasma cutters and resistance and MIG welding equipment along with other electro-mechanical equipment.
  •  Breakdown; clean; rebuild, troubleshoot, and repair the following types of equipment: pumps, air motors, welders, fluid power systems, gear drives, heavy industrial machinery and controls.
  •  Daily application of mechanical/electrical aptitude and skills to solve production related problems.
  •  Rebuild various equipment based on written and oral instruction
  •  Work with maintenance organization to resolve open issues
  •  Diagnose equipment failures at the system and component levels.
  •  Work with the team leaders to perform scheduled maintenance on equipment.
  •  Participating member of the Emergency Response Team
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Accepted into the Texas FAME program
  • Accepted and enrolled into St. Philip’s College AMT program and fulfilled school requirements
  • Qualified candidates, excluding current employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. We do not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
  • Must demonstrate passing grades each semester to remain in role
  • Must demonstrate passing OJT evaluations each semester to remain in program and role
  • Must have organization skills, effective communication skills with both technical and professional staff
  • Ability to demonstrate effective problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work efficiently and with a sense of urgency
  • Applicants must have the ability to read, speak and write English at a level that allows them to understand and communicate standard work instructions, job safety requirements and quality documentation in English
  • Must be an active participant in the site Emergency Response Team
  • Ability to demonstrate overall safe work behavior, including the utilization of proper safety equipment and adhering to safety guidelines
  • Physical Requirements (Ability to do the following up to 10 hours per day):
    • Walk, stand, sit, bend, twist/turn, kneel, squat, crawl
    • Climb using both legs and arms
    • Head/neck movement
    • Reach outward or above the shoulder
    • Drive or operate equipment such as lifts and/or motor vehicles
    • Lift, carry, push, or pull 15-45 pounds
    • Repetitive use of hands and fingers, both hands
    • Use of vibrating tools
    • Depth perceptions required
    • Ability to distinguish basic colors and shades of color
    • Exposure to constant and intermittent noise, fumes, smoke and gases, solvents, paint, grease and oils, radiant energy, and slippery surfaces
  • Demonstrates aptitude in electrical, mechanical, and electro-mechanical components
  • Ability to self-manage work priorities
  • Ability to specify the needed parts for equipment or process failures
