Job Description

Longy School of Music of Bard College prepares graduate students to make a difference in the world through their artistry. Longy students work closely with our faculty to create bold projects that challenge the status quo and give them the opportunity to explore their interests. Our curriculum prioritizes real-world experience that empowers students to build vibrant careers in music and effect change in their communities.


The Longy School of Music of Bard College is seeking applications to fill a part-time faculty position in English as a Second Language. Candidates should have experience teaching intro and intermediate level ESL classes at the college level. Familiarity with music would be preferred. The course, which meets twice a week, is co-taught with another Longy staff member. The course is taught in the Fall and Spring semester as well as a two-week intensive course in August.


Job Responsibilities

  • Co-teach one or two sections in the Fall semester and one section in the Spring semester of our ESL course.
  • Co-teach the summer English Intensive in August.
  • Work with co-instructor to create a challenging course tailored to the needs of Longy’s students
  • Co-create and facilitate a well-organized, thoughtful syllabus
  • As appropriate, incorporate elements of the Longy mission into course delivery
  • Evaluate and grade the performance of your classroom students, according to the grading standards of the Longy Conservatory
  • Provide ongoing assessment of student progress and development and take steps to accommodate the needs of students with individual learning styles


Qualifications 

Qualified candidates will possess an outstanding record of previous college teaching experience. A certificate to teach English as a Second Language, such as a CELTA or TEFL, is required. Bachelor’s or demonstrated equivalent required.
