Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled Electronics Technician with a passion for hands-on system integration, troubleshooting, and innovation to support the development, maintenance, and enhancement of advanced flight simulation systems at NASA Langley Research Center.

This role offers the opportunity to work within a cutting-edge simulation environment, supporting research, development, and operational systems used in aerospace innovation.

Position Overview

The selected candidate will support a wide range of activities involving electronics fabrication, system integration, troubleshooting, and sustainment of both fixed-base and motion-based flight simulators and associated subsystems.

You will work closely with engineers, developers, and technicians to ensure simulator systems operate reliably and meet mission requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform assembly, integration, testing, and repair of electronic systems and subsystems used in flight simulators
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues across electrical, data acquisition (DAQ), video, audio, and control systems
  • Support modification and upgrade efforts for existing simulator platforms and associated hardware
  • Fabricate and maintain cable assemblies, wiring harnesses, and electronic enclosures
  • Interpret and work from electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and assembly drawings
  • Assist with panel layout, system packaging, labeling, and hardware configuration
  • Generate or update technical documentation, including Bills of Materials (BOMs), wiring lists, and assembly instructions
  • Support installation, checkout, and validation of simulator hardware and subsystems
  • Collaborate with engineering teams on new system development and integration efforts
  • Ensure adherence to quality standards, workmanship requirements, and safety protocols

Required Qualifications

  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience as an electronics technician or in a similar role
  • Strong experience in electronics assembly, troubleshooting, and repair
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, schematics, and build documentation
  • Proficiency with test equipment (multimeters, oscilloscopes, power supplies, etc.)
  • Experience building and troubleshooting cables, harnesses, and electronic assemblies
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to high-quality workmanship
  • Ability to work both independently and within a team environment
  • Effective communication and documentation skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Electronics Technician Workmanship Certification (or equivalent training/experience)
  • Experience with flight simulators (fixed-base and/or motion-base systems)
  • Familiarity with simulator subsystems (visual systems, audio, control loading, DAQ, networking)
  • J-STD or similar certification for high-reliability soldering and assembly
  • Experience with CAD tools for electrical and/or mechanical design
  • Knowledge of system integration, hardware debugging, and root cause analysis
  • Experience supporting R&D or laboratory environments
  • Understanding of continuous improvement processes and configuration control
