Description

Immediate openings for part-time Bus Drivers to transport students and staff to sporting events and field trips. Applicants must be flexible in terms of availability, as hours/assignments vary from week to week. Many trips are mid-afternoon to evening, we also have trips on Saturdays and Sundays.  There is no guarantee of hours/week.



 



Key Responsibilities:




  • Transport authorized passengers on assigned trips safely and efficiently

  • Comply with all federal, state, and local laws relative to school bus operation

  • Drives safely: no “at fault” accidents or serious moving violations

  • Maintain cleanliness of assigned bus

  • Follow assigned route and schedule

  • Discharge passengers only at assigned locations

  • Transport only authorized passengers

  • Complete and submit all paperwork accurately and timely

  • Return keys, transponders, or other equipment timely, as required

  • Re-fuel bus whenever return leaves less than ¾ of tank

  • Complete pre and post trip inspections, including under hood for mechanical safety, and notify Driver Coordinator immediately of any problems

  • Add necessary mechanical fluids that are not at required operational levels, as discovered during pre-trip safety inspection

  • Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher and reflectors

  • Instruct passengers in safety precautions and practices

  • Conduct safe and efficient bus evacuation as required

  • Maintain current CDL license and DOT physical card, as required

  • Report all accidents or traffic violations involving a school bus immediately

  • Report all other accidents or traffic violations (not involving a school bus) within 3 days, and before next assignment

  • Adhere to all School transportation policies and procedures

  • Adhere to cell phone policy which prohibits the use of cellular phones while operating any school bus

  • Communicate effectively with the Transportation Director, driver coordinator, Faculty, Coaches, Staff, Administrators, students, parents and others, using tact, good judgment, and professionalism

  • Demonstrate initiative in identifying opportunities for improvement within the Transportation Department

  • Treats confidential information and sensitive situations with discretion

  • Positively represent the School with professional demeanor and appropriate dress, grooming, and language

  • Attend or complete additional trainings as assigned

  • Support and advance the mission of Oak Hall School

  • Be a role model of integrity and professionalism

  • Work positively and professionally with all constituencies of the school

  • Meet regular and predictable attendance requirements, including school meetings, and other required events

  • Adhere to School policies as described in the Employee Handbook and other materials

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications



  • Valid CDL Class B Driver’s License with Passenger (P) and School Bus (S) Endorsement required

  • Valid, current DOT Physical Card required

  • HS Diploma or GED equivalent

  • Minimum of 5 years licensed driving experience

  • Clean driving record required

  • Must pass a Level II Background Screening

  • Ability to use cleaning equipment safely

  • Ability to read and interpret documents such as daily schedules, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals

  • Ability to perform assigned duties appropriately and safely in proximity to students and staff

  • A high degree of professionalism, collegiality, and personal conduct both in and outside of school

  • Ability, willingness and judgment to communicate thoroughly, accurately and concisely with all constituents in the school community

  • Enthusiasm and commitment to the vision and mission of the School



 



Physical Requirements and Work Environment:




  • Required to sit, talk, hear frequently and for prolonged periods of time.

  • Both close and distance vision is required

  • Works in a highly stressful environment dealing with a wide variety of challenges, deadlines, and a varied and diverse array of contacts

  • Be able to occasionally lift to 30 lbs.

  • Ability to climb ladders safely, 2’-24’

  • Work primarily in a traditional climate-controlled school bus environment

  • Work in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat

  • Work in an environment with exposure to petroleum fumes

  • Work in an environment with loud noise

  • Tasks involve the ability to exert heavy physical effort, including climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling of moderately heavy objects and materials weighing 20 to 60 pounds.
