Under the direction of an assigned supervisor, perform a variety of cleaning and custodial maintenance duties in assigned buildings and facilities.
Position Duties
Clean and sanitize restrooms, showers, locker rooms, shops, cafeterias, gymnasiums, offices and related facilities; dust and polish furniture and woodwork; empty waste receptacles; spot mop spills; remove gum, debris and graffiti as needed. E
Minimum Qualifications
Sufficient training and experience to demonstrate the knowledge and abilities listed above.

KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Modern cleaning methods including basic methods of cleaning floors, carpets, furniture, walls and fixtures.
Appropriate safety precautions and procedures.
Operation of assigned custodial equipment.
ABILITY TO:
Learn the schedules, procedures and use of equipment and supplies used in custodial work.
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with others.
Maintain buildings and adjacent grounds areas in a clean, orderly and secure condition.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Move and arrange furniture and equipment.
Work cooperatively with others.
Operate assigned custodial equipment.
Observe health and safety regulations.
Learn basic record-keeping techniques.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
ENVIRONMENT:
Indoor and outdoor work environment.
Regular exposure to fumes, dust and odors.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate a variety of custodial equipment.
Walking or standing for extended periods of time.
Seeing to perform custodial duties.
Lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling moderately heavy objects (50 lbs) as assigned by position.
Bending at the waist, kneeling or crouching.
Reaching overhead, above the shoulders and horizontally.
Climbing ladders and working from heights.
HAZARDS:
Exposure to cleaning agents and chemicals.
Working on ladders.
Potential for contact with body fluids.
Working around and with machinery with moving parts.
In accordance with Personnel Commission Rules and Regulations of Classified Service # 70.200.1, new employees to Poway Unified School District will be placed at Step 1 (Minimum Salary) of the official salary range designated for the position. Any variances in initial placement are addressed in, and shall be carried out in agreement with, this rule.
