POSITION OVERVIEW

We are seeking an experienced and hands-on Engineering Supervisor to lead our hotel's engineering and maintenance operations. In this essential role, you will ensure the physical integrity, safety, and operational efficiency of our property while supervising a skilled engineering team. You will be a key contributor to the guest experience by keeping every corner of Miami Lakes Hotel well-maintained, safe, and running at peak performance.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Leadership & Communication

  • Supervise the Engineering Team in day-to-day maintenance and engineering operations, including service standards and equipment schedules.
  • Develop and maintain positive working relationships with colleagues, vendors, and all levels of the organization.
  • Communicate each shift's activities, issues, and incidents to incoming shifts using approved communication programs and standards.
  • Oversee all shift activity including reports, incident documentation, patrolling, dispatching, and daily logs.

Maintenance & Preventive Programs

  • Oversee ongoing maintenance, repair, and preventive maintenance (PM) programs with a focus on improving efficiency, profitability, and service levels.
  • Conduct daily property walk-throughs to visually assess the maintenance and operation of all physical structures.
  • Diagnose, maintain, and repair mechanical equipment throughout the hotel.
  • Ensure all hotel fixtures and fittings are maintained in safe working condition; take prompt corrective action when unsafe situations arise.
  • Perform preventive maintenance on tools and equipment; visually inspect tools, equipment, and machines regularly.
  • Coordinate with Housekeeping to prioritize maintenance activities in guest rooms and public areas.

Systems & Technology

  • Promote and manage usage of automated maintenance systems (HotSOS); ensure HotSOS is updated daily and all requests are completed.
  • Display working knowledge of all engineering computer programs related to preventive maintenance, energy management, and building systems.
  • Plan and oversee grounds-keeping contracted services.

Energy & Compliance

  • Implement and manage energy conservation programs to minimize hotel operating expenses.
  • Follow all company safety and security policies and procedures; report maintenance problems, safety hazards, accidents, or injuries promptly.
  • Implement and direct all emergency programs.
  • Stay current on compliance regulations and procedures in the engineering and facilities field as required by hotel standards.

Guest Service

  • Ensure prompt and courteous response to all maintenance requests from guests and colleagues.
  • Welcome and acknowledge guests according to company standards; anticipate and address service needs and assist individuals with disabilities.
  • Ensure team members adhere to uniform, personal appearance, and confidentiality standards and protect company assets at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Advanced knowledge of building management, facilities engineering, and hotel maintenance operations.
  • Strong leadership skills with demonstrated experience supervising and developing a team.
  • Excellent communication skills — both written and verbal — with the ability to interact professionally at all levels of the organization.
  • Proven ability to manage multiple competing priorities, meet deadlines, and adapt to a changing environment.

  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with strong attention to detail.
  • Experience with Yardi systems a plus.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

  • Proficiency with computers, building management software, and Microsoft Office products (Word and Outlook).
  • Ability to use mathematics to solve practical problems in a maintenance and engineering context.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and follow through on assignments.
  • Ability to establish and maintain accurate records and ensure efficient document retrieval.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

Required:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum 2 years of experience in hotel engineering, building maintenance, or a related field.
  • Prior supervisory or team lead experience required.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree or Trade Certification within the Engineering field.
  • Familiarity with hotel property management and maintenance systems such as HotSOS.

PHYSICAL & ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS

This role involves light to heavy physical effort, including lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling objects up to 50 pounds. May involve climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, walking, or extended periods of standing. Tasks are regularly performed both indoors and outdoors and may include exposure to varying temperatures, humidity, noise, dust, fumes, chemicals, electrical currents, or other conditions typical of a hotel engineering environment.
