What is it that we do at Colonial Pipeline Company?

Colonial Pipeline is the largest refined products pipeline in the United States, transporting more than 100 million gallons or 2.5 million barrels per day. Colonial transports various grades of gasoline, diesel fuel, home heating oil, jet fuel, and fuels for the U.S. military through a pipeline system. Colonial transports approximately 45 percent of all fuel consumed on the East Coast, providing refined products to more than 50 million Americans.

About the Asset Integrity Internship Position

Build real-world engineering and data analysis skills that help protect critical energy infrastructure.

At Colonial Pipeline, we move over 100 million gallons of fuel every day, delivering nearly half of the fuel used on the East Coast. As an Asset Integrity Intern, you will support the programs that ensure the safety, reliability, and regulatory compliance of our pipeline system.

This internship offers hands-on exposure to pipeline integrity engineering, combining data analysis, engineering fundamentals, and real operational insight. You’ll work alongside experienced engineers and inspectors while applying classroom knowledge to real-world integrity challenges in a safety-first environment.

About Asset Integrity

The Asset Integrity team is responsible for maintaining the long-term health and reliability of Colonial Pipeline’s system. This includes managing inspection programs, analyzing integrity data, supporting regulatory compliance, and continuously improving tools and processes that protect people, assets, and the environment.

Through this internship, you’ll gain exposure to pipeline systems, integrity management programs, regulatory standards, and data-driven decision-making that directly support safe operations.

What You’ll Do

As an Asset Integrity Intern, you’ll support integrity engineers and inspectors. During your internship, you may:

  • Learn pipeline system layouts, components, and operational principles
  • Gain exposure to federal and industry regulatory requirements related to pipeline integrity
  • Collaborate with mentors using industry-standard integrity and data analysis tools
  • Support updates to electronic anomaly inspection forms and integrity databases
  • Assist field inspectors and project managers with report reviews and quality assurance
  • Conduct pilot analyses using ILI/IMU data to support elevation and depth estimations
  • Help write threat assessments for in-service liquid pipelines
  • Identify opportunities to improve data analysis tools and integrity programs
  • Design or enhance electronic inspection and reporting templates
  • Analyze KPIs and trends used in integrity and annual reporting
  • Participate in commissioning activities at pipeline facilities (as applicable)
  • Present a summary of your work to supervisors and key stakeholders
  • Participate in feedback sessions to support professional development

What You Bring

  • Currently pursuing a degree in Engineering or a related technical discipline
  • Coursework or project experience relevant to integrity engineering, data analysis, or pipeline systems
  • Strong technical aptitude with an interest in an engineering career
  • Analytical mindset with solid problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently while seeking guidance when needed
  • Excellent organization, documentation, and communication skills
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • Willingness to travel occasionally
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and commitment to safety
  • Self-motivated with a strong work ethic and eagerness to learn
