About the Department
This is a seasonal, temporary summer position. Part-time hours: 20 - 30 hours per week, typically 8:00 am – 1 pm, with added prep-time and editing recordings of puppet plays. June - August 2026.
Position Duties
Under the supervision of the Recreation Program Coordinator, the Theater Instructor- Puppet Wagon is responsible for planning, creating, organizing, and actively participating and leading puppet wagon activities for 3rd - 8th grade participants. Also responsible for preparing the physical puppet wagon and driving to designated parks. Keeps supplies, puppet wagon, and theater room organized and clean. Records the puppet plays with the students and edits after class. This position actively works with Recreation Program Coordinator to meet program needs.
Minimum Qualifications
- High School graduate or equivalent plus some college work related to this position.
- Experience working with youth, ability to manage a variety of group dynamics, and knowledge of behavioral management.
- Knowledge of theater, teaching acting/puppet skills, assembling sets, and lighting/sound that is necessary.
- Basic audio recording, editing, and sound board knowledge required.
- Must be professional and able to work well with others and independently.
- Valid MN driver’s license and satisfactory driving record to drive city van and attached Puppet Wagon.
- Must pass a background check.
Other Qualifications
All Recreation Seasonal Employees MUST attend required staff training sessions. Training dates: June 15 - June 18 from 10:30 am - 4:30 pm (no June 19). Must keep those days available to attend.
