Position Overview
The Sr. Manager of Events will be responsible for creating, spearheading, and executing Avoya Travel’s annual Event Strategic Plan, including but not limited to events for Avoya’s Network of Independent travel agencies, Avoya’s preferred suppliers / sponsors, and Avoya employees. The Sr. Manager of Events will oversee the Events Department and will be in a supervisory and mentor role to already established and up-and-coming event professionals.
The Sr. Manager of Events will be responsible for high-profile events and will collaborate with leaders and executives from various departments to create and execute events that exceed revenue targets and are within budget. The Sr. Manager of Events will work in tandem with Avoya’s Communication and Public Relations team(s) to create not only experiences but content and announcements that are newsworthy and streamlined for all Avoya’s key audiences.
What You’ll Be Doing…
- Create, oversee and be responsible for high-level company-wide business projects
- Lead project management, negotiation, bidding contracts, RFP process of Avoya Events
- Lead the Events Department and be in a supervisory role
- Oversee employee personal growth and develop their business and events skill sets
- Delegate tasks from Avoya Executives and provide direction on execution accordingly
- Develop, report on, and monitor department budget and regularly monitor monthly expenditures
- Partner with the Strategic Partnerships and Network Engagement teams to develop events and produce content that will drive event revenue through sponsorships and attendance, increased sales through engagement and education, year over year
- Lead a team responsible for planning and executing six- and seven-figure budget multi-day events with hundreds of people.
- Display creativity and innovation by leading the industry with new event types/formats that will bring in new revenue opportunities and customers into the Avoya Platform.[MS1]
- Perform other duties as assigned by management or as may be necessary
Sounds Like A Good Fit? What It Takes To Be Successful…
- Bachelors Degree in Business, Marketing, Communications or a similar field with related work experience desired
- Must have 7+ or more of working experience in a similar role with experience in leading and mentoring a team. Strong interpersonal skills and experience collaborating with internal and vendor partners.
- Requires a combination of creative and analytic skill sets with exceptional level of detail-orientation and ability to multi-task in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
- Demonstrate proactive thinking and awareness with minimal supervision
- Must be able to create, think, and plan projects understanding the large picture of how the Events Strategic Plan impacts the overall P&L
- Must be able to delegate to employees and also jump in and work side-by-side with them no matter the size of the task (i.e. stuffing name badges)
- Ability to lead, guide, and inspire employees
- Ability to maintain elevated levels of attention to detail and train employees to meet Avoya’s standard of excellence
- Superb ability in taking a high-level strategic idea and create and execute a plan; breaking it down over the course of 1-2 years and prioritizing daily tasks (and re-prioritizing urgent tasks) for both self and employees
- Must be highly organized, results oriented with the ability to be flexible and work well in a fast-paced changing environment
- Must handle situations in a calm, professional manner and exhibit good judgment
- Excellent computer systems skills including reservations and reporting systems
- Excellent time management, interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal
- Able to collaborate effectively with other employees and managers to ensure teamwork and drive results
- Plan, research, and execute events while meeting deadlines and managing budget
- Ability to work a flexible schedule and travel (domestically and internationally) as required
