Job Description

At Network for Hope (NFH) the Donation Support Services Evaluation Coordinator (DSSEC) plays a critical role in assessing and facilitating the organ, tissue, and eye donation process. This position involves evaluating potential donors, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. The coordinator will perform evaluations, providing expert guidance and support throughout the donation process. The DSSEC works closely with hospital staff, tissue processors, and internal staff members.


Key Responsibilities

Referral Initiation

  • Serves as a back-up position to the DSS staff to obtain and document patient medical and social information provided by partners.
  • Assures pertinent referral/case information is communicated to appropriate internal and external stakeholders.
  • Communicates with external partners and provides necessary follow-up.
  • Identifies final suitability for tissue donors.
  • Provides clinical information to the tissue team or Administrator on-call.
  • Is available for call during scheduled shifts as assigned.

Evaluation

  • Conducts thorough evaluations of potential tissue donors.
  • Documents and evaluates relevant suitability criteria for all potential tissue donors.
  • Understands and applies all internal/external policies, procedures and standards relevant to donor suitability.
  • Builds positive, productive and professional rapport with tissue processor staff.
  • Works with quality and regulatory affairs to ensure documentation standards are met.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Provides ongoing education and training to internal teams and external partners on donor evaluation procedures and best practices.
  • Assists in the development and updating of standard operating procedures (SOPs) related to donor evaluations.
  • Mentors and supports less experienced team members in the evaluation process.
  • Participates in quality assurance initiatives to monitor and improve the effectiveness of the donation evaluation process.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma, or equivalent required. Associates degree, medical-related certification, or some post-secondary education strongly preferred.

Experience: Two or more years' experience working in an OPO or with tissue processing and distribution. Requires excellent typing and data entry skills, ability to multi-task, experience using multi-line phone systems, EMR and extensive medical terminology specific to healthcare.

Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: CTBS, Medical Assistant, LPN, or similar preferred.
