Position Title: Graduate Assistant for Student Life
Hours: 20 hours per week minimum for term of graduate program
Supervision: Libby O’Guin, Director of Student Life
Compensation: Tuition waiver
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Must be accepted to or enrolled in a graduate program at Cumberland University
- Available to work weekday office hours, weeknight hours, and occasional weekend events
- Must be knowledgeable of various sports rules (i.e. flag football, kickball, basketball, softball, etc.)
- Competence in technology; proficiency in Word, Excel, and Publisher
- Experience facilitating and officiating sporting events

TYPICAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Management of the Intramural Sports Program:
- Hire, train, and supervise all students employed as officials, scorekeepers, timers, and work studies
- Organize and conduct meetings with captains and officials prior to each season
- Develop and implement Intramural sports and staff working schedules
- Design various sports schedules and communicate effectively with captains
- Responsible for reserving gym or field time with the Director of Sports Information and other related personnel in addition to all game day preparations
- Recruit teams to be involved with Intramural sports
- Attend Intramural events to supervise and ensure students are adhering to safety guidelines
- Design attractive advertisements for intramurals such as flyers, posters, and banners, etc.
- Update Student Life Social Media accounts daily or as needed with planned events.
Other Job Related Duties and Responsibilities:
- Help maintain Student Affairs Master Calendar with input and editing along with creating a weekly bulletin of Student Life events
- Oversee work study students concerning posting daily messages on the Marquee information board
- Work with community businesses concerning the yearly Discount Program and Community Fair Event
- Work with other Student Affairs staff members to propose new programming concepts and activities that promote positive student development opportunities
- Assist in the set up, implementation, and tear down of Student Life related events
- Design attractive advertisement for Student Life events such as flyers, posters, and banners, etc.
- Delegate tasks to student workers assigned to the Student Life department
- Chaperone various off campus outings (Nashville Sounds, Predators, TPAC, Outdoor Recreation)
- Handle Equipment sign-out for Student Life Storage Room to students, faculty, & staff
- Serve as extra eyes on campus to help maintain a healthy/safe environment for students
- Serve as a resource for the appointment of the next graduate assistant(s)
- Other duties as assigned
Final Expectation:
- The Graduate Assistant in this area will be responsible for delivering a final capstone research summary. This research summary will be developed during the first month of the graduate assistant assignment and will be part of the expectation of completing the graduate program.
