Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

 Performs physical therapy services for patients in an outpatient rehabilitation clinic under the care of a physician, following accepted standards of practice and clinic protocols to restore function, improve mobility, relieve pain, and prevent or limit permanent physical disabilities.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

May include, but are not limited to:

  • Evaluates patients referred for outpatient physical therapy services.

  • Completes initial physical therapy evaluations and develops individualized outpatient plans of care, including treatment goals, interventions, and timelines.

  • Administers therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, modalities, gait training, and functional mobility activities.

  • Provides education to patients and families regarding exercise programs, injury prevention, and self-management strategies.

  • Documents evaluations, daily treatment notes, progress reports, and discharge summaries in accordance with clinic and regulatory requirements.

  • Collaborates with referring providers, clinic staff, and other healthcare professionals to coordinate care.

  • Adjusts treatment plans based on patient progress and reassessment findings.

  • Assists in the orientation and mentoring of physical therapy assistants and/or students as appropriate.

  • Maintains current knowledge of physical therapy practices through continuing education and professional development.

  • Ensures compliance with state, federal, and professional practice guidelines.

  • Maintains a safe and clean working environment by following infection control and safety protocols.

  • Participates in staff meetings, case conferences, and clinic quality improvement activities.

  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Clinic Manager.

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  • Provides supervision to Licensed Physical Therapy Assistants (LPTAs) in accordance with state practice acts and clinic policies.

  • Reviews and co-signs LPTA treatment notes and progress reports as required.

  • Provides guidance and feedback to ensure quality patient care and adherence to treatment plans.

 

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

 

Education, Certification, and Licenses -

  • Graduate of an accredited program in Physical Therapy (DPT preferred).

  • Licensed by the Oregon Physical Therapy Licensing Board to practice physical therapy.

  • Current BLS certification (or obtain prior to start date).

 

Experience -

  • One year of experience in outpatient orthopedics or related rehabilitation setting preferred.

  • New graduates considered with strong outpatient clinical experience.

 

Knowledge of -

  • Outpatient physical therapy treatment techniques and rehabilitation protocols.

  • Orthopedic, sports medicine, and neurological rehabilitation practices.

  • Electronic medical records/documentation practices.

 

Ability to-

  • Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans.

  • Communicate effectively with patients, families, and the healthcare team.

  • Work collaboratively in a fast-paced outpatient environment.

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS/REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Frequent standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

  • Ability to assist patients with transfers and mobility training.

  • Use of hands for manual therapy and therapeutic equipment operation.

     

WORK CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT:

  • Outpatient rehabilitation clinic setting with exposure to gym equipment, treatment tables, and therapeutic modalities.

  • Typical work hours: Monday–Friday, with occasional evening coverage if needed
