PROFILE OF A LIBERTY HILL ISD EDUCATOR
Liberty Hill Educators are leaders with compassion, effective collaborators, adaptable thinkers,
determined problem-solvers, and skilled communicators.
PRIMARY PURPOSE
To support the academic, behavioral, social, and physical needs of students receiving special education
services by assisting certified teachers and service providers. Paraprofessionals serve across a variety
of special education programs and settings, and may move between classrooms or campuses
throughout the year based on student and program needs.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification
● Graduation from an accredited high school or GED.
● Successful completion of Academic Assistant (ACC, Region 13 or LHISD Local
Assessment) or current TEA-issued Educational Aide Certificate – obtainable after hire (fee
requirement). Level III Educational Aide Certification preferred.
● Some college coursework preferred
Experience
● Experience working with children is preferred, especially in educational or special needs
settings.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities
● Knowledge of District, campus, and classroom policies and procedures.
● Knowledge of techniques used in assisting students with special needs.
● Skill in applying classroom/student discipline management.
● Ability to administer Crisis Prevention Intervention (CPI), First Aid and Cardiopulmonary
Resuscitation (CPR) based on assignment.

● Skill in operating standard computer and software applications.
● Ability to support instruction, manage multiple tasks, and collaborate effectively with staff
and families
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
● Assist certified staff with implementing instructional plans, accommodations, and
modifications for students.
● Work with individual students or small groups to reinforce learning objectives and skill
development.
● Support students with physical, medical, or behavioral needs, including feeding, lifting,
toileting, and personal hygiene.
● Monitor and support student behavior; intervene in crisis situations and apply de-escalation
strategies when necessary.
● Prepare and organize instructional materials, classroom equipment, and adaptive tools as
directed.
● Supervise students in the classroom, during transitions, and at assigned duty stations.
● Step in as needed when the teacher is briefly away from the classroom (e.g., attending
meetings).
● Maintain accurate records and communicate observations regarding student progress or
concerns to the teacher.
● Participate in ARD meetings, professional development, and campus/district training as
appropriate.
● Collaborate with teachers, service providers, and campus staff to meet student needs and
improve service delivery.
● Assist in administering state and district assessments per established guidelines.
● Help maintain a clean, organized, and safe classroom environment.
● Uphold confidentiality and comply with all applicable laws, policies, and procedures.
● Comply with policies established by federal law, including but not limited to State Board of
Education and local Board policy.
● Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
● Demonstrate regular and prompt attendance.

● Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment, including computer and peripherals;
standard instructional equipment; other specialized and adaptive equipment used by
students.
● Posture: Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and
twisting.
● Motion: Frequent walking and reaching.
● Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); Occasional heavy lifting (45
pounds or over) and positioning or students with physical disabilities, controlling behavior
through physical restraint, assisting non-ambulatory students, and lifting and moving
adaptive and other classroom equipment.
● Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement
weather); exposure to noise; exposure to biological hazards (bacteria, communicable
diseases, body fluids).
● Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control and
professionalism at all times.
Special Education Paraprofessionals serve as vital campus supports and may be assigned across
a range of special education programs based on student needs and campus priorities. These
positions are dynamic and may rotate among different settings throughout the school year—or
even within a single day. Assignments could include roles in General Inclusion/Resource, RISE,
Solid Roots, BEST, ESLE, AIMES, or the 18+ Transition Program.
