Job Description
Purpose Statement
The job of Physical Therapist is done for the purpose/s of extending professional knowledge to assist in
solving many of the functional challenges that students encounter in school by assessing students' physical
development level; providing appropriate treatment to meet individualized student objectives; and providing
recommendations for program development and student placement.
This job reports to Director of Special Services & Early Learning
Essential Functions
Administers physical therapy procedures and modalities for the purpose of enabling students to perform
daily activities within the school setting.
Assesses students' strength, gross motor and development skills within home and classroom
environment (e.g. motor development and function, sensory development, muscle strength, etc.) for the
purpose of determining student functional level, deficits and developing recommendations and/or
placement.
Collaborates with a variety of groups and/or individuals (e.g. parents, teachers, physicians,
administration, other professionals, etc.) for the purpose of communicating issues regarding services to
students, instruction in the use of assistive technology devises and plans for remediation of student
functional limitations in compliance with students Individualized Educational Programs (IEPs).
Consults with teachers, parents, other personnel and/or outside professionals (e.g. IEP team,
physicians, etc.) for the purpose of providing requested information, developing appropriate student
treatment plans for services and/or making recommendations.
Develops treatment plans, interventions and/or educational materials for the purpose of remediating
students' motor skill deficits and ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
Evaluates building accessibility for the purpose of recommending action to remove obstacles which may
impede access for people with physical disabilities.
Implements treatment plans for students for the purpose of to address the motor needs of students
and/or accommodation requirements.
Monitors utilization of prosthetics, orthotics, and adaptive appliances for the purpose of ensuring
adaptive devices function as intended.
Participates in meetings, workshops and seminars for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering
information required to perform services.
Prepares a wide variety of written materials (e.g. activity logs, correspondence, memos, treatment plans,
Medicaid billings, reports, etc.) for the purpose of documenting activities, providing written reference,
and/or conveying information.
Provides services related to functional use of the body activities and adaptive surroundings to (e.g.
postural alignment, mobility, use of prostheses, etc.) for the purpose of facilitating the student's
independent functioning.

Job Requirements: Minimum Qualifications
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
SKILLS are required to perform multiple, highly complex, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in
order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the
functions of the job include: preparing and maintaining accurate records; and adhering to safety practices.
KNOWLEDGE is required to perform algebra and/or geometry; review and interpret highly technical information, write
technical materials, and/or speak persuasively to implement desired actions; and analyze situations to define issues
and draw conclusions. Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the
job include: principles of physical therapy; health standards and hazards; safety practices and procedures; and age
appropriate activities.
ABILITY is required to schedule activities, meetings, and/or events; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider
a number of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a wide variety of
circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using a variety of
standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a diversity of individuals and/or groups; work with a variety
of data; and utilize a variety of job-related equipment. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily
perform the functions of the job include: communicating with diverse groups; and maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibility
Responsibilities include: working independently under broad organizational guidelines to achieve unit objectives;
directing other persons within a small work unit; operating within a defined budget. Utilization of resources from other
work units may be required to perform the job's functions. There is a continual opportunity to impact the

Work Environment
Generally the job requires 10% sitting, 60% walking, 30% standing. This job is performed in a generally clean and
healthy environment.
Experience: Job related experience is desired.
Education (Preferred):
Education (Minimum): Masters degree in job-related area with an emphasis in Master's Degree in Physical
Therapy required (minimum).
Recommends or fabricates adaptive equipment for ADL (Activities of Daily Living) needs. (e.g. mobility,
classroom seating/positioning, etc.) for the purpose of supporting individual needs of students with
physical disabilities.
Researches resources and methods (e.g. intervention and treatment techniques, assessment tools and
methods, community resources, etc.) for the purpose of determining the appropriate approach for
addressing students' functional goals.
Responds to inquiries (e.g. parents, teachers, staff, students, etc.) for the purpose of providing
information and/or referral as appropriate.
Reviews medical reports for the purpose of providing information and/or ensuring that
treatment/intervention plans are appropriate.
Screens students for the purpose of determining the need for further individualized assessment.
Supervises assistants for the purpose of monitoring performance, providing for professional growth and
achieving overall objectives of treatment plans.
Other Functions
Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective
functioning of the work unit.
