    Job Announcement
    Bus Driver

     

    The position of Bus Driver is available immediately at the East Central Independent School District.  All individuals (district employees included) who are interested in this position must apply online through Frontline via the district website – www.ecisd.net.   The deadline for submitting an application is until the position is filled.

    Position Function/Purpose:  The driver will be expected to operate a school bus and related equipment to provide safe and orderly transportation of students and other authorized persons on the assigned route and to and from other designated locations.

    ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

     
    1. Follow assigned route and adhere to established schedules
    2. Drive bus to and from extracurricular activities
    3. Check bus for mechanical defects before and after each operation and notify supervisor of needed repairs
    4. Report all accidents, vehicle damage, student injuries, and mechanical failures.  Complete required reports.
    5. Keep the assigned bus clean.  Meet all safety and sanitation requirements per your department supervisors.
    6. Supervise students while they board and leave the bus and cross the street. 
    7. Communicate w/teachers and parents on a daily basis regarding student behavior while on the bus.
    8. Maintain discipline; report student discipline problems to appropriate administrators.
    9. Instruct students on safe riding rules and regulations
    10. Observe all traffic laws and safety regulations for school buses.
    11. Inspect the bus by checking fuel, oil, water, tires, lights, brakes, and steering to ensure the bus can be operated safely before driving.
    12. Ensure proper condition of emergency equipment, such as first aid kit, fire extinguisher, flags, fuses, crow bar, and reflector.
    13. Correct unsafe conditions in the work area that could cause an accident and inform the supervisor of any conditions that are not correctable immediately.
    14. Report any hazardous conditions along the route.
    15. Operate two-way radio equipment to communicate with the transportation office.
    16. Work irregular hours as needed.
    17. Attend and complete required training programs to maintain safety certification.
    18. Keeps records on bus mileage when requested, and number of passengers transported. 
    Note:  Not all applicants will be interviewed.  Each applicant's resume, application, and other available information will be considered in the screening process.  Only those persons currently meeting all of the minimum requirements will be screened.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

     

    Valid Texas commercial driver's license (Class B) w/proper endorsements
    Texas Bus Driver Certification                
    Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
    Must be 21 years of age                  
    Ability to communicate effectively
    Ability to pass alcohol and drug test                
    Knowledge of student discipline procedure
    Ability to complete required bus driver safety training        
    Ability to manage student behavior
    Ability to operate bus

     


    EQUIPMENT USED: Operate school bus, two-way radio; safety equipment including but not limited to flares, reflective signs, and fire extinguisher

    WORKING CONDITIONS:  Mental Demands/Physical Demand/Environment Factors: Maintain emotional control under stress.  Prolonged sitting; frequent standing and twisting; occasional kneeling/squatting, bending, stooping, and pushing/pulling.  Prolonged driving; moderate walking; frequent climbing stairs, grasping/squeezing, wrist and shoulder flexion/extension, and reaching; limited light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds) on a daily basis.  Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures, noise, and vehicle fumes; work around moving vehicles; regularly work irregular hours, and occasionally work prolonged hours.
