Plan, direct, and coordinate the picking, loading and distribution operations within a warehouse environment and lead/manage/develop people within the warehouse team to ensure overall success of the department, branch/division and company. In this role you will:
- Supervise the activities of workers engaged in receiving, shipping and storage of products in a clean, safe and secure manner.
- Review daily replenishment requirements.
- Ensure the team is adequately staffed & maintained, including scheduling of work, vacations and other time off. Assist Warehouse Manager in interviewing and selection of warehouse personnel.
- Respond to customers' or shippers' questions and issues regarding order quality and accuracy.
- Inspect the physical condition of the warehouse, rolling equipment and bar-code scan guns to ensure all in good condition and repair as needed. Work with the Warehouse Manager for replacement as needed.
- Conduct daily start-up meetings for the shift and oversee daily equipment pre-shift inspections.
- MBWA – Manage by Walking Around – During each shift create a “to do” list for each team member of damaged products, any areas that require cleaning and other miscellaneous items within their assigned areas to be addressed during the shift.
- Assist warehouse manager in controlling departmental operating expenses and understand budget preparation and tracking.
- Prepare emails and reports for maintenance and safety meetings.
- Open and close warehouse facility as needed. Follow open/close security measures as dictated by BWI Policy.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule, including, but not limited to, evenings and early morning, or as workload can sometimes dictate
- Manage and lead a team of diverse personalities. Train & develop team members. Keep Warehouse Manager abreast of any recommendations for promotions and/or impending weaknesses within each team member.
- Manage and maintain an efficient work schedule. Improve efficiency of each employee and the overall team. Review and approve timecards.
- Ensure a safe work environment for all team members. Enforce company safety policy and procedures. Conduct monthly, or more frequent, safety meetings.
- Take corrective disciplinary action when needed as outlined by BWI Policy. Keep the warehouse manager abreast of any impending and/or ongoing disciplinary issues.
- Efficiently utilize WMS system within your team.
- Understand and utilize company-generated reports.
- Communicate between shift teams to support continuity and the overall success of the warehouse, branch/division and company organizations.
- Communicate the needs of your hourly employees with the management team to ensure management of the overall health of the organization.
- Perform any additional duty considered critical and necessary by management.
Qualifications:
- Education: High School Graduate or General Education Degree (GED)
- Experience: One to three years related experience
- Computer: AS-400, WMS proficiency; Basic skills with Microsoft Office - Word & Excel (preferred)
- Certificates & Licenses: Forklift experience and prior Certification required
