Job Description

LEGACY EARLY COLLEGE OVERVIEW

Legacy Early College is a K4-12 public charter school that originated through the vision of businessman William Brown in 2009 with an unwavering focus on “To and Through College” at every grade level.  Legacy’s model combines academics, nutrition, physical fitness, and mental health. In addition to our college-driven academic standards, meals are made on site, scholars participate in PE every day, and Social-Emotional Literacy is integrated into the culture and curriculum.

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

Legacy Early College (“Legacy”) is looking for an Elementary School Music Teacher (General Music, Strings and/or Choir) with the ability to ensure student success through differentiated instruction. We feature a pre-existing robust inventory of strings and percussion instruments. You will be joining a cohort of dedicated and passionate teachers who are also established professional artists.

 

The candidate must be able to create and maintain a climate that promotes knowledge, skills, and character traits needed to succeed through college and beyond. This position reports to the School Principal.

 

ROLES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Duties

  • Plans a balanced music program, and organizes daily class time so that preparation, rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
  • Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and is developmentally appropriate to the maturity and interests of the students
  • Differentiate music curriculum to meet the needs of the individual student and the student body.
  • Prepare for classes assigned and show written evidence of preparation upon request of immediate supervisor
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment during practice, group rehearsals, and music performances
  • Employ a variety of instructional techniques and instructional media consistent with best practices, specific content knowledge, the physical limitations of the space provided, and the needs and capabilities of the individuals or student groups involved.
  • Strive to implement, by instruction and action, the school’s philosophy of education and instructional goals and objectives
  • Maintains care and responsibility for school-owned music, musical instruments, and equipment to prevent loss or abuse
  • Take necessary and reasonable precautions to assure safety in the classroom and the school for all students
  • Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by law, school policy, and administrative regulations
  • Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing student life and conduct
  • Participate in all professional development opportunities
  • Actively participate in team meetings and serve on staff committees
  • Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues
  • Communicates clearly with parents and school faculty/staff on the progress of individual students
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned

 Qualifications

  • Minimum bachelor’s degree in Music or Music Education
  • South Carolina teaching certificate, preferred
  • Spanish speaking ability, preferred
  • Strong organization and project management skills
  • Strong instrumental skills, including piano accompaniment
  • Exceptional attention to detail and follow-through
  • QuaverMusic experience, strongly encouraged
  • K-12 teaching experience, highly preferred

 

 Work Schedule

 This position operates on the 195-day schedule based on the Legacy Early College centralized calendar.

Position will have periods of extended work week hours, which are required to support both the ongoing development of the region and the delivery of high-quality education for all students.
