Job Title: Resident Teacher (PVAMU/University Partner - EPP Partnership)
Reports to: Principal
Supervision: Host Teacher and EPP Clinical Supervisor
Pay Grade: $20,000 per year

Duty Days: 187 (aligned to district calendar, may vary due to DOI)

Primary Purpose:
The Resident Teacher is a paid clinical teacher candidate participating in a full-year teacher residency program aligned with an approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP). The Resident Teacher works full-time in a classroom under the guidance of a highly effective certified Host Teacher to develop instructional expertise through co-teaching, co-planning, and progressively increasing instructional responsibility.
The residency model is designed to prepare the Resident Teacher for certification and a full-time teaching role by providing immersive, job-embedded clinical experience in a district classroom setting.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
- Must be formally admitted and recommended by a state-approved Educator Preparation Program (EPP) for yearlong residency placement
- Bachelor’s degree completed or in progress as required by the EPP
- Working toward Texas teacher certification
- Must be currently enrolled in a partnering university or approved EPP in a residency pathway
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Understanding of child and adolescent development across grade levels
- Strong knowledge of subject matter and curriculum standards
- Ability to co-teach, plan, and collaborate in a professional learning environment
- Effective communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills
- Ability to accept feedback and implement instructional improvement strategies
Residency Program Structure and Expectations
- Participate in a full-year clinical residency aligned to the district instructional calendar
- Gradually assume increased instructional responsibility throughout the residency year based on performance and EPP guidance
- Remain under the direct supervision of the Host Teacher and EPP clinical supervisor at all times and does not serve as teacher of record
- Engage in continuous coaching, observation cycles, and performance feedback aligned with residency benchmarks

Successfully complete all EPP clinical residency requirements to be eligible for Texas teacher certification
Upon successful completion of the residency program, demonstrate readiness for a full-time teaching position within the district, if offered, and commit to a minimum one-year teaching commitment to Waller ISD
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Practice / Co-Teaching
- Participate in a full-year clinical residency embedded in a classroom setting
- Co-plan, co-teach, and co-assess instruction with the Host Teacher using research-based co-teaching and gradual release practices
- Provide small-group and individualized instruction under the supervision of the Host Teacher
- Support whole-group instruction and instructional differentiation aligned to campus curriculum expectations
Professional Learning and Development

Participate in PLCs, district professional development, and EPP-required coursework and training

Engage in ongoing coaching cycles including observations, feedback, and reflective practice with the Host Teacher and EPP supervisor

Use feedback to improve instructional effectiveness
Assessment and Classroom Support

Assist in collecting and analyzing student data to support instructional planning

Support implementation of assessments, grading, and instructional adjustments under Host Teacher supervision

Assist in maintaining a positive, structured learning environment and student engagement
Professional Responsibilities

Accept supervision from both the Host Teacher and EPP clinical supervisor
