Job Description

ESSENTIAL POSITION PURPOSE

The University of Providence seeks candidates for a full-time, tenure-track faculty position in the Teacher Education Program, primarily teaching elementary education methods and foundational courses.

Candidates must be able to support and promote the university's Mission, Catholic identity, and liberal arts/professional education traditions. We seek a highly collegial faculty member committed to welcoming students into the university community, to holistically form students, and to help students orient themselves among and excel in various types of educational courses. This faculty member will have advising responsibilities for undergraduate students. The teaching load is 30 credits per academic year, and there may be opportunities to teach in other disciplines, in Integrated Learning Community courses, and in the summer.

RESPONSIBILITIES 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

• Teach 30 credits per academic year (fall and spring) in the Teacher Education program.

• Develop and teach courses in elementary education methods and content, social studies education, field practicum courses or other methods courses, instructional technology, teaching

strategies, curriculum and assessment, and foundational educational courses.

• Teach in face-to-face, blended, and online instructional environments.

• Serve as an academic advisor for program majors and minors.

• Advise students within the program, assisting students with research projects, and maintaining professional expertise within the successful candidate’s specialization.

• Participate in the systematic program evaluation of programs.

• Provide service to the program, university, profession, and community.

• Ability to interact successfully within a multicultural environment and to work harmoniously with colleagues, students, and the community.

• Participate in academic activities at the department and university levels.


ESSENTIAL POSITION COMPETENCIES AND REQUIREMENTS

Education

• A completed doctorate in Education (or a closely related field) or ABD is required for the tenuretrack position; candidates without the doctorate are welcome to apply for a non-tenure track position.

• Current K-12 teaching license preferred

• Focus or concentration in one or more of the following areas preferred: Elementary teaching methods, science of reading, curriculum and instruction, instructional technology, and instructional coaching.


Experience

• Extensive experience teaching at varied K-12 levels, with expertise to instruct pre-service

teachers for the elementary and middle school levels.

• Expertise with computer applications for instructional purposes.

• Communication and interpersonal skills sufficient to work effectively with a diverse array of students and colleagues.
