Job Goal

To help establish and maintain a safe, orderly, and positive environment during lunch and recess where students can eat comfortably, interact appropriately, and return to class ready to learn, supported through active, attentive supervision that is visible, mobile, and responsive.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma
  • Be dependable, punctual, cooperative and have neat appearance
  • Ability to supervise children in a variety of settings
  • Ability to treat all students in a respectful, responsible and fair manner
  • Ability to promote and maintain confidentiality as the norm
  • Good health and hygiene
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 20 pounds and be able to lift, stand, walk and stoop
  • Interest in working with other adults and with students

Performance Responsibilities

  • Able to communicate with diverse groups and positively represent the school.
  • Interact with co-workers and students in a courteous, tactful, and pleasant manner, including in stressful and busy situations.
  • Demonstrate flexibility to re-prioritize work as needed and seek assistance when necessary.
  • Pick up the interior key and radio in the main office upon arrival.
  • Provide active, attentive supervision by remaining visible, mobile, and responsive to students throughout lunch and recess.
  • Organize students into orderly lines for purchasing food, ensure they proceed to assigned tables, and circulate among tables during the meal period to assist students and address minor issues.
  • Assist students with opening condiments as needed.
  • Organize students for orderly disposal of food waste and maintain clean lunch tables.
  • Organize groups for orderly dismissal from the lunchroom and supervise transitions to recess and back to the building.
  • Assist students with getting dressed for recess when needed.
  • Circulate and supervise the playground during recess to assist students, address minor issues, and ensure a safe environment.
  • Inform the attending teacher immediately of any serious infractions of disciplinary rules.
  • Call immediately for an attending teacher in any of the following situations: an argument involving more than two students; any incident involving physical confrontation; or any incident that appears to be more than a momentary disruption.
  • Escort students back to class prior to the end of lunch/recess; ensure bathroom breaks are completed and students are settled and ready for learning when the bell rings.
  • Perform all necessary tasks in an efficient and safe manner.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

Unusual Working Conditions

  • Work is performed in a fast-paced and congested work environment. There may be periods of above normal noise levels and temperature.

Terms of Employment

Work day will be two (2) hours – 11:15 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. Work year will be the school year.
