Job Description

Summary


The Operations Intern works under the direct supervision of the Systems Engineering Manager providing support for the technology and operations departments. The Operations Intern will assist with integration troubleshooting to support customer modifications, as well as troubleshooting training support equipment such as video, datalink, air to ground communications, and UAS support. The Intern will work with the IT department to assist with daily tasks of that department, encompassing support requests, computer assistance, network troubleshooting and device management. The Operations intern will support the contracts department with customer support by operating and maintaining customer equipment in both static and dynamic scenarios within the Hagerstown, Washington, Baltimore and Tri-State area.  DST's goal is to contribute to the Operation Intern's development, as well as providing an opportunity to work in a business environment within the defense industry. 

 

Essential Functions

  1. Provides direct support in the day-to-day operations:
      1. Systems Engineering Support
        1. Managing aircraft configuration to meet customer requirements.
        2. Providing ground power to aircraft as required.
        3. Configuration of air-to-ground communications.
        4. Build and test coaxial, power and data cables.
        5. sUAS manufacturing, flight support, R&D.
      2. IT Department Support
        1. Performs additions and changes to system hardware and attached devices.
        2. Provides technical consultation, training, documentation and support.
      3. Operations Department Support
        1. Clearly communicate with air to ground radio.
        2. Operate and maintain customer equipment in static and dynamic scenarios.
        3. Prompt communication through radios, emails, text messages and phone calls.  
    1. Troubleshoots at the physical level, working with electronic measurement equipment, as well as physical checking and testing of hardware devices, and at the logical level working with communication protocols.
    2. Filling in varies roles to support operations and customer support.


    Position Type and Expected Hours of Work


    This is a temporary, short-term part-time intern position, expected to last from May 11, 2026 to August 24, 2026 and not to exceed 28 hours a week. Days and hours of work are to be determined but typically falls between Monday through Friday, 7:30 am to 4:30 pm with a one hour unpaid lunch break. 

     

    Travel


    This position requires minimal travel; movement is required between local hangars.

     

    Required Education and Experience

    1. High school diploma.

     

    Other Hiring Requirements 

    1. Valid Driver’s License.
    2. U.S. Citizenship is required to obtain/maintain a United States Security Clearance.
    3. Must pass a DOT/FAA regulated drug screening.
