Job Description
Benchmark School is seeking a passionate and adaptable Music Teacher to join our community of educators dedicated to serving our neurodiverse students with learning differences in grades 1 through 8. The ideal candidate brings both a love of music and a flexible, student-centered approach to instruction and provides a balanced approach to music history, cultural context, performance, and composition.
Responsibilities
- Instruction
- Collaborate with the Assistant Head of School to plan and deliver instruction aligned with Benchmark School's research-based principles that will provide a vertically aligned music curriculum.
- Deliver engaging, differentiated music lessons that meet students where they are, adapting curriculum, materials, and pacing to accommodate a wide range of student abilities.
- Integrate technology, rhythm instruments, singing, and movement into instruction.
- Maintain an inclusive and supportive classroom environment.
- Partner with content-area teachers to design and implement Arts Integration lessons.
- Serve as a resource for integrating music and the performing arts into broader curricular initiatives.
- Student Support
- Use music as a vehicle for building confidence, self-expression, and foundational academic skills.
- Communication and Reporting
- Communicate effectively with families regarding student progress
- Prepare academic reports for all students.
- Professional Responsibilities & Community
- Participate in collaborative planning and meetings.
- Engage in ongoing professional development and contribute to school-wide initiatives.
- Perform essential administrative tasks, including promptly updating records in the school's student information system and other platforms.
- Perform additional duties before, during, or after school as needed, including, but not limited to, choir and the middle school musical.
- Contribute to a positive and inclusive community through participation in school events, committees, task forces, and activities
- Complete other duties as assigned by the Head of School
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in education with training in music education and/or music therapy
- Experience with teaching neurodivergent students
