The Quality Engineer evaluates the performance of our value stream products against established FMVSS and corporate quality standards through the design, development, and manufacturing lifecycle. They are responsible for the execution of Quality deliverables during new product development, ensuring new product meets requirements prior to SOP. This role supports current products by addressing internal and external nonconformance issues through root cause analysis and product testing/validation, effectively communicating with multiple departments regarding recommendations on product improvements through detailed data collection and reports.
Essential Functions:
· Audit, inspect, and enforce corporate acceptance standards.
· Analyze production data and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to identify trends, enhance process capability, and reduce defects.
· Test and validate parts, products, and processes.
· Ensure quality criteria are captured in work instructions, drawings, and Engineering documentation.
· Create and maintain inspection procedures, process plans, control plans, and PFMEA’s for assemblies throughout the life of the product.
· Review Engineering changes against Quality standards, ensuring changes capture adequate detail to be produced, controlled, and inspected.
· Use APQP tools and metrics to proactively identify improvement opportunities in our quality system.
· Determine root cause of part/product failures.
· Initiate and drive internal Corrective/Preventive Actions (CPAR) to ensure complete and effective root cause analysis and corrective action implementation.
· Serve as primary Quality representative for assigned program launches.
Additional QE I Functions:
· Lead quality readiness reviews prior to production launch.
· Champion structured problem-solving activities using structured problem-solving methodology.
· Direct Process Capability studies and implementation of Statistical Process Control
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
· Safety focused
· knowledge of quality control standards.
· Experience in process improvement methodologies such as Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, or Kaizen.
· Computer skills- Must be proficient in Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Epicor.
· Must be proficient using 3D modeling and 2D CAD software (AutoCAD, Inventor).
· Proven ability to resolve complex and unique manufacturing process problems.
· Communication proficiency, both verbal and written.
· Ability to function well under the demands of project due dates.
· Ability to work independently and own every facet of the Quality area and work with a cross-functional team.
· Self-motivated with initiative.
· Logical decision making.
· Technical minded and data driven.
Minimum Requirements:
· Bachelor’s Degree in Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing/Mechanical Engineering Technology, or like degree required.
· Experience in a manufacturing environment - Preferred.
· Understanding of ISO 9001 – Preferred.
· Understanding of Stage Gate NPD process or similar NPD process.
· Experience in structured root cause and corrective action methodology.
Additional requirements for QE I:
· Experience supporting new product launches, preferred
· 2+ years of QE experience, preferred
