  • Salary: $110K-$135K

Position Overview

We are seeking a Cybersecurity Specialist to support the U.S. Department of Energy’s Energy Threat Analysis Center (ETAC). This role focuses on supporting the analysis, synthesis, and communication of cybersecurity threats to the U.S. energy sector, with particular emphasis on securing operational technology (OT), implementing intrusion detection systems (IDS), and critical infrastructure risk.

The ideal candidate has a solid technical foundation in cybersecurity and a strong interest in threat analysis, critical infrastructure protection, and technical writing. This role is well suited for a cybersecurity professional who enjoys analytical work, collaboration with subject matter experts, and translating technical information into clear, actionable insights for a wide range of stakeholders.

This position emphasizes analytical and mission-focused work rather than continuous operational monitoring.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support analysis of cybersecurity threats, vulnerabilities, and incidents impacting the U.S. energy sector, with an emphasis on OT and IDS/IPS environments
  • Contribute to ETAC analytic products, including threat assessments, technical papers, briefings, and information-sharing materials
  • Assist in research and analysis of adversary tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTPs) affecting energy-sector systems and infrastructure
  • Support efforts focused on securing OT networks, industrial control systems, and SCADA architectures
  • Help analyze structured and unstructured data to identify trends, risks, and potential impacts to energy-sector stakeholders
  • Collaborate with senior analysts and subject matter experts to develop clear, accurate, and well-organized analytic content
  • Translate technical cybersecurity findings into concise, understandable messaging for non-technical audiences, including government and industry partners
  • Support ETAC’s mission to improve situational awareness, threat understanding, and resilience across the U.S. energy sector
  • 4+ years of experience in cybersecurity, computer network security, threat analysis, or a related technical field
  • Foundational knowledge of cybersecurity concepts, technologies, and networked systems
  • Experience supporting, analyzing, or securing OT systems in an enterprise or operational environment
  • Strong written communication skills with the ability to produce clear, well-structured technical or analytic content
  • Ability to explain technical concepts to non-technical audiences
  • Ability to obtain a U.S. Government security clearance (active clearance preferred)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to critical infrastructure protection, energy-sector cybersecurity, or government cybersecurity programs
  • Familiarity with intrusion detection and prevention concepts or tools (IDS/IPS)
  • Experience working with or analyzing cybersecurity data sets, logs, or threat reporting
  • Basic understanding of operational technology (OT) environments and the Purdue Enterprise Reference Architecture
  • Familiarity with industrial control systems (ICS) or SCADA concepts and environments
  • Awareness of ICS/SCADA communication protocols such as MODBUS, DNP3, PROFINET, or S7COMM
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms and basic cloud security best practices
  • Experience supporting analytic, research, or information-sharing efforts in a team environment

Why Join ETAC
