About the Department
The successful candidate will work to perform a variety of maintenance and repair tasks using hand tools and various types of motorized equipment, will work indoors and outdoors in all weather conditions, and meet the requirements outlined below.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
- Must demonstrate reliable and predictable attendance. Evening and weekend availability is preferred.
- Must possess a valid Ohio driver's license and remain insurable under the City's vehicle insurance policy.
- Has proven ability in oral and written communications and provides outstanding customer service.
- Has the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships and a friendly rapport with public officials, civic leaders, city employees, and patrons of the Big Splash.
- Has the ability to follow directions.
- The City of Grove City is a Drug Free Workplace. All candidates who receive an offer of employment will be required to undergo testing for commonly used drugs, including marijuana.
Seasonal - 40 hours per week for up to 5 consecutive months at a pay rate of $17.85 per hour.
Position Duties
The Aquatics Maintenance Assistant shall have the following duties under their direct supervisor:
- Water Quality Management: Tests, adjusts, and maintains water chemistry (pH, chlorine, alkalinity, Calcium Hardness) to meet health standards.
- Equipment Maintenance & Repair: Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and fixes mechanical issues relating to pumps, filters, chemical feeders, heaters, motors, slides, and water features.
- Preventative Maintenance: Performs routine checks, cleans and services equipment to prevent breakdowns.
- Facility Upkeep: Cleans the pool, pool deck, and surrounding areas. Performs cleaning procedures including, but not limited to, daily and weekly restroom cleaning, trash removal, cleaning waste receptacles, wall and interior window washing, dusting, sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, and restocking paper supplies.
- Safety and Compliance: Ensures adherence to health codes and creates a safe environment for guests.
- Record Keeping: Documents maintenance, chemical usage, repairs, and reports.
- Meets all job safety requirements and all applicable OSHA safety standards that pertain to essential functions.
- Demonstrates regular and predictable attendance.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- Obeys and promptly executes all orders of the Administrative Assistant.
Minimum Qualifications
The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an aquatic environment including chemicals. flammables, hazardous gases, air contaminants; exposed to wet walking surfaces, ascends and/or descends stairs; has contact with potentially violent or emotionally distraught persons; routinely required to stand, walk, stoop kneel, crouch, or crawl on even and uneven surfaces. The employee has exposure to chemical compounds found in an office environment (e.g., toner, correction fluid, etc.); works in the vicinity of floor or wall openings, elevated platforms, and/or runways; ascends and/or descends ladders or scaffolds; works on and around powered platforms; is exposed to environmental conditions which may result in injury from fumes, odors, dusts, mists, gases, and/or poorly ventilated work areas; exposed to possible injury from hazardous gases, chemicals, flammables, air contaminants, unclean or unsanitary conditions; works with moving mechanical parts of equipment or machines (e.g., belts, reels, blades, pulleys, etc.); exposed to possible injury from explosions and/or falling from high places; has exposure to fire; has exposure to hot, cold, wet, humid, or windy weather conditions; has exposure to shaking objects or surfaces; regularly required to lift, carry, push, or pull 50 lbs. or less.
Note: In accordance with the U.S. Department of Labor physical demands strength ratings, this is considered medium to heavy work.
