The Role

This role in project consulting is both challenging and rewarding. It requires a proactive individual and critical thinker who is eager to gain technical expertise through hands-on experience and develop a strong understanding of the Building Code. Project Consultants in this position will be responsible for performing code consulting, reviewing design documentation, and coordinating with clients and regulatory authorities to ensure compliance with applicable building and fire codes. This position will work closely with senior consultants to manage their own projects as well as support senior staff with more complex projects.

  • Review building designs done by others and apply relevant Building and Fire Code to new and renovation projects of various sizes.
  • Conduct code analysis reports and other technical documentation and provide alternative design solutions to ensure full compliance to the building and fire code.
  • Collaborate with project teams, consultants, clients, contractors, and other stakeholders for successful delivery of projects.
  • Manage assigned project from start to finish and be the point of contact with clients.
  • Collaborate with project administrators to ensure smooth project management flow, timely invoicing and follow through.
  • Attend meetings with clients, stakeholders and Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) to discuss project details and requirements.
  • Provide inputs to prepare project proposals.
  • Provide assistance and support for smooth project billings.
  • Engage in professional development by attending industry conferences, training sessions, and webinars to stay updated on fire and life safety standards
  • Participate in business development initiatives, identify business opportunities and support expansion in service offerings.

 What’s in your bag?

  • University degree in mechanical, civil, or chemical engineering or architectural engineering.
  • 5-10  years of experience in building and fire code consulting, or a related field
  • Strong technical report writing, communication, and technical skills
  • Thorough knowledge of building and fire codes (NBC, NFC, OBC, OFC) and industry standards (NFPA, CAN/ULC, CSA)
  • Ability to work on and support multiple projects, including assisting with or independently handling the planning, coordination, and execution of work.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to foster positive and collaborative relationships.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD and Bluebeam or other relevant software
