Formosa Plastics is a privately held company headquartered in Livingston, New Jersey. Our core business, producing plastic resins and petrochemicals, takes place at three wholly-owned chemical manufacturing subsidiaries located in Delaware City, Delaware, Baton Rouge, Louisiana and Point Comfort, Texas.

 

 

I.   POSITION OBJECTIVE

To assist in research and development project and support engineers in the daily needs of projects and to conduct Technical/Application testing to support Production/Business groups and monitor product quality.

II. MAJOR AREAS OF ACCOUNTABILITY

  • Calibrate, operate, maintain, and troubleshoot laboratory instruments and equipment to ensure accurate and reliable results.
  • Analyze raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products in accordance with approved methods and specifications.
  • Perform quality control testing for process monitoring, additives, and final product release prior to shipment.
  • Accurately document test results, calculations, and observations in a timely manner, ensuring data integrity and traceability.
  • Enter analytical data into required systems and complete associated calculations and reports.
  • Investigate, troubleshoot, and resolve analytical or equipment issues; coordinate repairs or corrective actions as needed. 
  • Complete and maintain all required QC, ISO, IATF, safety, and regulatory documentation.
  • Ensure compliance with company policies, ISO/IATF standards, environmental, health and safety requirements, and applicable federal and state regulations.
  • Participate in audits, inspections, daily NTG (Nothing Touching the Ground) checks, and operational clean sweep activities.
  • Actively support pellet loss prevention, containment, cleanup, and proper disposal practices.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and safe laboratory and work environment following 6S or similar standards.
  • Attend and actively participate in safety meetings, departmental meetings, and required training programs.
  • Communicate results, issues, and trends effectively with operations, quality, and management teams.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives related to testing methods, efficiency, quality, and safety.
  • Work outside normal business hours as required to support production or quality needs.
  • Maintain regular, reliable attendance and professional conduct.
  • Assist with inventory control of laboratory supplies, reagents, and standards as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support laboratory and operational objectives.

III. QUALIFICATIONS

  • Education
    • High school graduate or equivalent with a minimum of eight hours of college-level chemistry, or an associate’s degree in Chemical Technology (Laboratory) preferred.
  • Previous Related Experience Required
    • High School diploma or equivalent with a minimum of eight hours of college-level chemistry; or an associate’s degree in Chemical Technology (Laboratory); or three years of industrial laboratory experience; or at least 15 consecutive months of experience in a Polyolefins, PVC, or Polymer Analysis laboratory. Experience in plastic converting processes and testing is preferred.
