Job Summary

The Sr. Optomechanical Engineer is a hands-on engineer who contributes to the development, sustaining and introduction of new products within IPG Photonics’ Laser Beam Delivery portfolio. Working under the guidance of senior engineers, this role requires active collaboration with optomechanical, electronics, software and manufacturing teams to develop robust, manufacturable solutions that meet performance, reliability, and cost objectives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serve as a key contributor to sustaining engineering initiatives, developing and implementing product design improvements, cost reductions, and process optimizations that enhance product quality, reliability, and manufacturability throughout the lifecycle.
  • Contribute to the design and development of new products and subsystems, from early concept definition through detailed design, prototyping, and production release.
  • Collaborate with optomechanical, electrical, software, and manufacturing teams to ensure seamless design integration, system performance, and manufacturability throughout the product lifecycle.
  • Create and maintain detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and engineering documentation in SolidWorks, applying GD&T and ASME Y14.5 standards to ensure design accuracy and quality.
  • Perform analyses and design optimization—including tolerance, thermal, structural, and vibration evaluations—to verify robust functionality in demanding environments and optimize overall system performance.
  • Support prototype fabrication, testing, and validation, applying results to guide design refinement and successful transition to production.
  • Expand expertise in mechanical, optical, and thermal design principles for high-power laser and optomechanical systems, while contributing to continuous improvement in product development methods and best practices.
