    The Town of Scarborough, Maine, is seeking a dedicated and passionate full-time, Social Services/General Assistance Coordinator for an anticipated vacancy. The Social Services Coordinator will serve in two direct service capacities to community members. 

     

    1. The Social Services Coordinator will serve as the town's General Assistance Administrator.  This role will include the Coordinator meeting with individuals who are unable to meet their own basic necessities due to lack of income or resources available to them.  The Administrator will take applications for assistance, provide written decisions and vouchers for assistance when applicable, keep complete and accurate records, and maintain client confidentiality.

       

    2. The Social Services Coordinator will provide face to face and over the phone support to individuals seeking referrals to local support services. These referrals will help to address individual community member's identified unmet needs and help to provide a continuity of their care and well-being.  Referrals may include local pantries, case management, primary care, etc.

     

    Work is performed under the general direction of the Social Services Manager with considerable independence and is evaluated through reports and discussion of results achieved; assignments are also reviewed through audits and reports to State agencies.

     

    The ideal candidate will be self-motivated, empathetic, collaborative, detail-oriented, and someone who is enthusiastic and committed to public service and the community.

     

    Job Requirements: High school diploma/GED and previous experience administering general assistance required. Social work or social services experience is desirable. Excellent organizational and communications skills, plus strong computer skills, are required. The ability to work independently, maintain confidentiality, and to develop and maintain positive working relationships with clients, state officials, municipal staff, and the general public, is required. In lieu of the above, any equivalent combination of training and experience that provides the following knowledge, abilities, and skills may be considered at the discretion of the Town of Scarborough.
