Who We Are
At KEV, we help school districts eliminate the school finance blind spot. Our platform gives district finance teams real-time visibility and traceability into every dollar collected at the school level - whether it's cash, cheque, or digital. From field trips to fundraisers, we help them manage every dollar with confidence. More than 27,000 schools across North America trust KEV to manage over $8 billion annually. By unifying payments, accounting, and reporting, KEV simplifies life for bookkeepers, builds trust with parents, and gives finance leaders the oversight their current systems cannot. It's how we help schools stay compliant, reduce risk, and focus on what matters most, student success.
Backed by Five Arrows, the PE arm of Rothschild & Co., KEV is investing more than ever to support K-12 in a world of tighter budgets, rising scrutiny, and fast-changing tech. We're headquartered in Toronto, with offices across North America.
If you're excited by the idea of building tech that protects schools, empowers finance teams, and improves education through better systems, KEV is the place for you.
This role is for an active vacancy.
What You'll Be Doing
Commercial & Corporate Legal
You'll own commercial contracting end-to-end — drafting, reviewing, and negotiating customer agreements (on our paper and theirs) while keeping deals moving without unnecessary friction. You'll work hand-in-hand with our Sales and GTM teams to make sure speed and risk stay in balance, and you'll help us build and scale the contract workflows and CLM system to support our growth.
Beyond deals, you'll provide legal support on corporate governance matters including board and audit committee materials, financings, and strategic transactions. You'll manage external counsel relationships selectively and weigh in on employment matters alongside our People & Culture team.
Compliance
As KEV grows — and as the K-12 sector faces increasing regulatory scrutiny — compliance isn't an afterthought, it's a competitive advantage. You'll lead our compliance function, overseeing a team responsible for ensuring KEV meets its obligations across the jurisdictions we operate in. That includes privacy regulations like GDPR, FERPA, and other applicable data protection frameworks, as well as financial compliance requirements tied to our role as a registered ISO and payments processor.
You'll build and maintain a compliance program that's rigorous but pragmatic — one that scales with the business and gives our school customers confidence that their funds and data are in safe hands. You'll work cross-functionally with Product, Finance, and People & Culture to embed compliance thinking into how we build and operate, not just how we audit.
Security Governance
You'll also oversee KEV's security governance function, working closely with our Technology team to make sure our policies, frameworks, and certifications (think SOC 2, and other relevant standards) are current, credible, and actually lived — not just documented. Your team will manage vendor risk assessments, support security audits and customer due diligence requests, and help ensure that KEV's security posture keeps pace with our growth and the trust our schools place in us.
Team Leadership
You'll lead and develop a team spanning legal, compliance, and security governance — setting direction, removing blockers, and creating an environment where people do their best work. You're as comfortable coaching a team member through a tough compliance question as you are negotiating a complex commercial deal yourself. You believe great teams are built on clarity, trust, and a shared sense of purpose.
Building the Function
Most importantly, you'll help shape what a modern, high-functioning legal, compliance, and security team looks like at KEV — building scalable processes, identifying automation opportunities, and leveraging legal tech to punch above your weight.
What You Bring
You have 7+ years of relevant experience spanning legal, compliance, and/or security governance, with a solid foundation in commercial contracting and corporate matters, plus a law degree (LL.B. or J.D.). B2B SaaS or fintech experience is a big plus — you know what it means to work fast in a high-growth environment without cutting corners on the things that matter.
You've led or grown a team before and you know how to build one that's both high-performing and genuinely enjoyable to be part of. You have sharp judgment, a practical approach to risk, and the communication skills to be a trusted partner to stakeholders across Sales, Finance, Product, and the C-suite. You're comfortable in ambiguity, excited to build, and genuinely interested in using tools and tech to scale your impact.
Familiarity with privacy regulations (GDPR, FERPA), payment compliance frameworks, and security standards like SOC 2 is a strong asset. You don't need to be a technical expert — but you speak the language and know how to get things done cross-functionally.
What's In It For You
This is a rare opportunity to build something — a modern legal, compliance, and security function powered by smart systems, great people, and a company that actually values what you bring. You'll have real ownership, real impact, and a front-row seat to KEV's next phase of growth.
You'll also get a competitive base salary, stock options, and a benefits package designed to support you and your family. Our hybrid work model (three days in-office, two flexible) means you get the best of collaboration and flexibility.
Most of all, you'll join a team of high-performers who care deeply about their work, support each other, and never need to be the smartest person in the room. No big egos. Just big hearts — and big ambitions.
Sound like your kind of challenge? We'd love to hear from you.
