Description
The primary function of the fixed route dispatcher includes all duties necessary to ensure compliance with established schedules by scheduling, directing, and supporting fixed route drivers, handling both radio and telephone traffic, and enforcing adherence to starting times and established time points by drivers performing routes. Furthermore, the position supports ACT’s purpose and objectives by respecting and adhering to all policies and procedures of the Agency.
Essential Functions include but are not limited to:
- Communicates Agency policies and services as requested by customers and staff in a courteous and helpful manner.
- Answers and refers telephone calls or other inquiries to ensure accurate and timely communications using professional attitude and language (e.g. Lost & Found function, communicating with outside client groups and emergency personnel).
- Dispatches information to and between drivers regarding stops, passengers, schedules, safety messages, time checks, and unusual operational issues such as accidents, incidents and general schedule variations.
- Operates two-way radio system in accordance with established company rules and regulations to communicate with base information relevant to the safe and prompt movement of the transit vehicle (e.g., reporting disruption of service such as vehicle accidents, street closures, mechanical problems).
- Be aware of the potential safety and security factors throughout the transit facility and to follow all applicable policies and procedures of the Agency. Responsible to report any known or potential safety and/or security factor immediately to an appropriate supervisor, including any employee not following the policies and/or safety procedures.
- Be willing to learn CAD AVL, Spare and Optibus software.
- Attends work regularly.
Requirements
- High School education or equivalent.
- Possess well-developed customer service skills.
- Ability to maintain, in a confidential manner, all information received.
- Excellent oral communication skills are essential to the position.
- Experience using Microsoft software applications.
- Clean and neat appearance.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements
Normal working conditions for this position are typical of an office environment. Will be required to work scheduled early mornings to late evenings shifts, including Saturday and Sunday. The position requires a capacity to work beyond standard office hours when needed to address critical deadlines.
Physical requirements of the position include sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Must have ability to remain stationary for long periods of time. Requires visual acuity to read words and numbers. Also requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person or over the phone.
