Title: TEACHER AIDE (BIC/ISI)


 


Reports To: Director of Deans


 


Duration: 10 Months


 


Purpose Statement


 


The job of Teacher Aide (BIC/ISI) is done for the purpose/s of assisting in the implementation of a behavior modification program and monitoring and reporting student behavior and performance.


 


Essential Functions


 


Administers and monitors classroom assignments, tests, homework assignments, make-up work, etc. for the purpose of supporting students in the instructional process.


Implements under the supervision of assigned teacher, modifications as necessitated by IEP with behavior disorders or other special conditions for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts.


Maintains classroom equipment, work area, and manual and electronic files and records for the purpose of ensuring availability of items; providing written reference; providing a safe learning environment; and/or meeting mandated requirements.


Monitors students during assigned periods for the purpose of providing a safe and positive learning environment.


Provides verbal and/or written feedback of observations for the purpose of informing teacher/s and/or parents of students' progress.


Reports observations and incidents relating to specific students (e.g. accidents, fights, inappropriate social behavior, violations of rules, safety conditions, etc.) for the purpose of communicating information to appropriate instructional and/or administrative personnel.


Responds to emergency situations (e.g. injured student, fights, etc.) for the purpose of resolving immediate safety concerns and/or directing to appropriate personnel for resolution.


Responds to inquiries from a variety of sources (e.g. students, teachers, administrators, and/or parents, etc.) for the purpose of solving problems, providing information and/or directing to other sources.


 


Other Functions


Attends meetings and in-service presentations for the purpose of acquiring and/or conveying information relative to job functions.


Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.


Performs general record keeping and clerical functions (e.g. attendance logs, activity reports, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the teacher and/or supervisory staff in meeting mandated requirements.

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities


SKILLS are required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: operating standard office equipment including using pertinent software applications; and preparing and maintaining accurate records.


 


KNOWLEDGE is required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: safe practices in classroom and other activities; correct English usage, grammar, spelling, punctuation and vocabulary; reading and writing communication skills.


 


ABILITY is required to schedule activities; gather and/or collate data; and use basic, job-related equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others. Problem solving is required to identify issues. Specific ability based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: consistently attends work; supervising and disciplining students according to approved policies and procedures; modeling appropriate social skills, social interaction and appearance; applying behavior modification techniques developed for classroom use; intervening positively in, and diffusing potential confrontations among students.

Working Environment


The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling, frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 38% sitting, 25% walking, and 38% standing. The job is performed in a generally hazard free environment and in a clean atmosphere. 


 


Education High school diploma or equivalent.


Licenses Educator License with Stipulations – Paraprofessional endorsement or higher
