    Job Summary:
    The Bus Driver is responsible for operating a school bus in a safe and efficient manner to transport students between designated locations, including schools, homes, and school-sponsored events. The driver ensures the safety of all passengers, follows designated routes, and complies with all traffic laws and USD 315 district policies.
    Key Responsibilities:
    1. Safe Transportation:
      • Transport students to and from school and other designated locations, ensuring their safety during boarding, transport, and exiting the bus.
      • Adhere to all traffic laws, transportation policies, and school district regulations.
    2. Route Management:
      • Follow pre-assigned routes and time schedules, making adjustments as necessary due to traffic, weather conditions, or emergencies.
      • Communicate with dispatch regarding route changes or concerns.
    3. Safety and Supervision:
      • Enforce safety rules and behavior standards for students on the bus.
      • Report any safety hazards or issues related to student behavior to the appropriate school personnel.
      • Perform pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections to ensure the bus is in safe operating condition, including checking fuel, oil, and other fluids.
      • Ensure that emergency evacuation procedures are followed when necessary.
    4. Bus Maintenance:
      • Monitor and report any mechanical issues to the transportation director or maintenance personnel.
      • Keep the interior of the bus clean and orderly.
    5. Communication:
      • Maintain open communication with school officials, parents, and transportation director.
      • Complete necessary transportation reports, such as mileage, bus condition, and incident reports.
    Qualifications:
    • Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) or Driver’s License for non-CDL Routes.
    • Clean driving record with no major violations.
    • Pass a background check and drug screening.
    • Completion of a certified bus driver training program.
    • Knowledge of local traffic laws, school district policies, and safety protocols.
    Skills:
    • Excellent driving skills and focus on safety.
    • Ability to manage student behavior effectively.
    • Good communication and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to remain calm in emergency situations.
    • Punctual and reliable.
    Working Conditions:
    • Drivers may be required to work early mornings and late afternoons, as well as some evenings and weekends for school events.
    • Must be able to work in various weather conditions.
