    Middlesex County STEM Charter School (MCSCS) is a public school serving grades Kindergarten through 8th grades and open to all students who reside in the City of Perth Amboy. The school is free to all students and families and is a replication of the Central Jersey College Prep Charter School, a recipient of the 2016 Blue-Ribbon Award and other prestigious awards.

    1:1 Paraprofessional 

    The 1:1 Paraprofessional provides dedicated, hands-on support to an individual student with specialized academic, behavioral, and social needs. This role is essential in ensuring the student can successfully access the general education curriculum and participate fully in the school community. Working under the guidance of classroom teachers and the Child Study Team, the Paraprofessional implements tailored instructional activities and behavior intervention strategies to foster an inclusive and supportive learning environment. 

    Responsibilities:

    • Provide direct, hands-on support to students with special education needs across academic, behavioral, and social domains within the classroom setting.
    • Assist with the implementation of teacher-directed instructional activities and provide individualized and small-group academic support.
    • Help students access and engage with the general education curriculum in alignment with their IEPs or 504 Plans.
    • Support the implementation of Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs) and utilize positive behavior supports to maintain a structured learning environment.
    • Perform data collection related to student progress and behavior, including prompting, redirection, and reinforcement as needed.
    • Assist students with organization, transitions, and daily routines to ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment.
    • Support students with communication, social skills, and independent functioning as appropriate to their individual goals.
    • Collaborate with teachers, case managers, related service providers, and administrators to ensure consistency in support.

    Essential Duties:

    • Implements basic behavior strategies including reinforcement, prompting, and redirectionCommunicates responsibly with students, parents/guardians, colleagues, and school leadership;
    • Follows all county, state, and federal policies and procedures;
    • Follows professional ethics in all work-related activities;

    Knowledge/Skills/Abilities: 

    • Maintains strict confidentiality of all student and family information
    • Supports use of visual aids and structured instructional materials
    • Demonstrates patience, consistency, and flexibility with diverse student needs
    • Maintains positive, professional attitude and willingness to learn
    • Demonstrates reliability through consistent attendance and punctual daily performance
    • Collaborates effectively as part of a multidisciplinary educational team
    • Follows teacher direction while supporting instructional and behavioral goals

    Minimum Requirements:

    • At least 30 credits or more from an accredited college or university;
    • Valid NJ Substitute Teacher Certification;
    • NJ Criminal History;
    • Work authorization in the U.S.;
    • Tuberculosis Test;
    • Experience is a plus.
