Job Description

Must hold or be eligible for a Substitute Teaching Certificate through DESE (36 College credit hours required). In lieu of education, may consider high school diploma with relevant experience and must pass Para Praxis test through DESE.


 


Experience in technology related area preferred.


 


 


Purpose


The job of Paraprofessional - Technology is done for the purpose/s of providing support to the instructional program with specific responsibilities for assisting with building technology; helping students with computer skills; troubleshooting building technology issues; assisting the librarian with clerical functions; assisting students and staff with library resources; assessing the effectiveness of instruction; providing written support and/or conveying information regarding instructional materials.


        


This job reports to Principal


 


Essential Functions



  • Assists teachers, students and administrators for the purpose of identifying resource materials for use in classroom and/or class assignments.

  • Assists the students in completing projects and assignments for the purpose of teaching using the District Standards.

  • Coordinates with technology department staff for the purpose of ensuring computer hardware and software malfunctions are resolved.

  • Implements lesson plans for the purpose of presenting and/or reinforcing learning concepts and strategies.

  • Maintains equipment lab areas (e.g. cleaning counter tops, replacing ink cartridges, etc.) for the purpose of ensuring equipment and lab areas are in safe, proper working condition.

  • Maintains computer hardware and software applications for the purpose of ensuring availability of instructional materials.

  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of maintaining a safe environment conducive to learning.

  • Performs general clerical functions (e.g. copying, faxing, sorting mail, laminating, filing, data entry, resetting passwords, creating and processing photo IDs, collecting and processing fines, etc.) for the purpose of supporting the library program.

  • Provides verbal and written feedback with direct instruction of student performance to teachers and students for the purpose of assessing the effectiveness of instruction.

  • Reports health and safety issues to assigned administrator and appropriate agencies for the purpose of maintaining students personal safety, a positive learning environment and complying with regulatory requirements and established guidelines.

  • Responds to inquiries of students, staff, parents for the purpose of providing information and/or direction as required.

  • Responds to inquiries (e.g. students, parents, staff, teachers, etc.) for the purpose of providing assistance and/or direction in the area of computer technology classes with the assistance of the computer instructor.

  • Schedules labs for the purpose of directing services in an efficient and timely manner.

  • Troubleshoots computer malfunctions of hardware and/or software applications for the purpose of determining appropriate actions to maintain computer operations.


  Other Functions



  • Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

SKILLS are required to perform single, technical tasks with a need to occasionally upgrade skills in order to meet changing job conditions. Specific skill based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: communicating with persons of varied cultural and educational backgrounds; operating computers and other types of technology; planning and managing projects; preparing and maintaining accurate records; and utilizing pertinent software applications.


    


KNOWLEDGE is required to perform basic math, including calculations using fractions, percents, and/or ratios; understand written procedures, write routine documents, and speak clearly; and solve practical problems.  Specific knowledge based competencies required to satisfactorily perform the functions of the job include: pertinent computer hardware and software applications.


    


ABILITY is required to schedule activities and/or meetings; gather, collate, and/or classify data; and consider a variety of factors when using equipment. Flexibility is required to work with others in a variety of circumstances; work with data utilizing defined but different processes; and operate equipment using standardized methods. Ability is also required to work with a wide diversity of individuals; work with a variety of data; and utilize job-related equipment. Problem solving is required to identify issues and create action plans. Problem solving with data requires independent interpretation of guidelines; and problem solving with equipment is moderate to significant. Responsibilities include: working under direct supervision using standardized routines; providing information and/or advising others;  utilization of some resources from other work units may be required to perform the job's functions. Work Environment


The usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling,  significant stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and significant fine finger dexterity. Generally the job requires 20% sitting, 40% walking, and 40% standing. 


    


This job is performed in a generally clean and healthy environment.


    


Experience:  Job related experience is desired.


    


Education:  Community college and/or vocational school degree with study in job-related area.


    


Equivalency:  60 College Credit Hours.
