Job Description

Position Summary: The Staff Accountant plays a key role in maintaining the financial health of the organization. This position is responsible for a variety of accounting functions including general ledger maintenance, account reconciliations, journal entries, financial reporting, and assistance with audits, budgeting, and regulatory reporting. The Staff Accountant ensures the accuracy of financial data and supports compliance with internal policies, nonprofit standards, and regulatory requirements.



 



Key Responsibilities:




  • Prepare and post journal entries, ensuring proper documentation and accuracy.

  • Reconcile general ledger accounts on a monthly basis, including cash, prepaid expenses, fixed assets, and accruals.

  • Assist with the month-end and year-end closing processes.

  • Prepare monthly financial statements and reports for leadership and board review.

  • Track and allocate costs across departments and facilities as needed.

  • Assist with budget preparation and monitoring.

  • Support internal and external audit processes, including preparation of audit schedules and documentation.

  • Maintain fixed asset records, including depreciation and disposals.

  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and nonprofit accounting standards.

  • Collaborate with billing, accounts payable, payroll, and other departments to ensure accurate financial reporting.

  • Monitor and analyze financial data to identify trends or discrepancies.

  • Support grant and restricted fund accounting as needed.

  • Assist with the preparation of cost reports and other financial reports required by regulatory agencies.
