    Primary Purpose:
    Implement and provide students diagnosed with dyslexia with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them reach their potential by developing competencies and skills to function successfully.


    Qualifications:
          Education / Certification:
    • A valid Texas teacher certification
    • Valid Special Education EC-12 certification – preferred
    • Valid ESL Supplemental certificate required for all elementary content area teachers and all Special Education teachers
    • Valid ESL Supplemental certificate preferred, but not required, for secondary Special Education teachers and all other secondary content area teachers
    • Willingness to obtain multiple certifications
          Special Knowledge/Skills
    • Knowledge of special needs of students in assigned areas
    • Knowledge of specific multi-sensory teaching strategies such as MTA, Take Flight, etc.
    • Knowledge of Admission, Review, and Dismissal (ARD) Committee process and Individual Education Plan (IEP) goal setting process and implementation
    • General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
    • Ability to work effectively with principals, teachers, students, parents, and community
    • Demonstrate strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
          Experience
    • Three years teaching experience
    • Experience delivering intervention strategies for dyslexic students preferred
    • Experience in administration and analysis of district reading assessments
     
    Major Responsibilities and Duties:
     
    1. Plan and use appropriate instructional and learning strategies, activities, materials and equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assigned.
    2. Collaborate with students, parents and other members of staff to develop IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student assigned.
    3. Provide instructional services for students identified with dyslexia using District approved program.
    4. Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, and other required documents in a timely manner.
    5. Provide ongoing documentation on student progress.
    6. Assist in training staff on characteristics of dyslexia and identification of dyslexia.
    7. Support campus staff in determining accommodations for classroom instruction and assessments.
    8. Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
    9. Use effective communication skills to present information accurately and clearly.

    Tools/Equipment Used: Personal computer and peripherals, and other instructional equipment
     
    Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, and    twisting
     
    Motion: Frequent walking
     
    Lifting: May require regular heavy lifting (45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical
    disabilities, control behavior through physical restraint, assist non-ambulatory students, and lift and move adaptive equipment; may work prolonged or irregular hours
     
    Environment: Exposure to biological hazards; may require district-wide travel
     
    Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; Ability to communicate effectively (verbal
    and written); interpret policy, procedures, and data; coordinate district functions
     
    Other:  Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures; Other duties as assigned
