Job Description

Posting Information: We are currently hiring for 5th and 6th grade teachers for the 2026-2027 school year.

Interview Process: If selected for an interview, you will be invited to complete an Asynchronous Virtual Interview, which should be completed within 48 hours of the invitation for best consideration. Candidates chosen for a second round interview will participate in an in-person interview.

Schedule: 180 days per school year, 7 hours per day with start and end times varying by building.

Location: Olympic Middle School

Salary: $64,664 - $119,032 annually, depending on experience. The listed salary range is based on the 2025-2026 school year and will be updated once 2026-2027 salaries are finalized.

FLSA Status: Exempt

Benefits: 12 sick leave days of which 6 can be used for personal leave each school year; 5 days bereavement leave per school year; health insurance benefits through the School Employees Benefits Board (SEBB) including medical, dental, vision, life, and long-term disability insurance. Retirement through the Washington State Department of Retirement Systems (DRS); other fringe benefits as allowed under the Shelton Education Association (SEA) Collective Bargaining Agreement.

Job Summary:

Middle School teachers in our 5th & 6th grade school support Shelton School District’s Strategic Plan and the School Improvement Plan by developing students’ academic skills through academic courses of study and implementing District approved curriculum; documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; addressing specific educational needs of students; providing a safe and optimal learning environment; and providing feedback to students, families, and administration regarding student progress, expectations, goals, etc. 

Requirements:

Essential Functions:

  • Creates and delivers lesson plans in alignment with District approved curriculum following the scope and sequence of their grade level team
  • Develops and maintains positive, professional relationships with students, other staff, families, and administrators
  • Advises families of student progress for the purpose of supporting teacher’s expectations, developing methods for improvement and/or reinforcing classroom goals in the home environment
  • Assesses students for the purpose of providing feedback to students, families, and administration regarding students’ progress, expectations, goals, etc...
  • Collaborates with other teachers to review data, implement interventions, align their scope and sequence, and improve their instructional practices with a focus on student growth
  • Collaborates with school personnel, families, and various community agencies for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions, and delivering District approved curriculum
  • Directs para educators, volunteers, and/or student aides for the purpose of providing an effective school program and addressing the needs of individual students
  • Monitors student activities for the purpose of providing a safe and optimal learning environment
  • Prepares teaching materials and reports (e.g., grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and providing documentation of teacher and student progress
  • Confers with students to monitor student progress and modify instruction when appropriate
  • Scaffolds instruction to meet the needs of all students being served
  • Ensures students are in "just right books" that meet their interests and reading levels
  • Maintains a District issued classroom library
  • Reflects on instructional practices and received feedback and implements changes as appropriate
  • Reports incidents as appropriate for the purpose of maintaining personal safety of students, providing a positive learning environment, and adhering to education code, district, and/or school policies
  • Participates in various meetings (e.g., family conferences, in-service training, site meetings, professional development, etc.)
  • Maintains confidentiality and tact in all aspects of employment
  • Maintains a positive attitude and views students with an asset-based approach
  • Supports the District’s Strategic Plan and the School Improvement Plan of assigned building
  • Abides by all District Policies and Procedures as well as all applicable statutes and guidelines
  • Follows and actively supports District and building initiatives
  • Performs other duties as assigned
