Quality Engineer 2 (Onsite)

Fike Corporation, a rapidly growing international manufacturer of pressure relief, explosion protection, fire suppression and detection equipment, has an opportunity for a Quality Engineer 2 position. Fike is a privately held business located in Blue Springs, MO with over 400 employees locally & over 1,200 employees worldwide.

Job Summary:

The Quality Engineer 2 contributes to the company’s Quality Management System and is responsible for monitoring products and processes, identifying defects, determining root causes of defects, and developing immediate, permanent, and preventive actions. This is a hands-on role supporting quality execution in a manufacturing environment. This position works directly on the production floor, partnering with manufacturing, engineering, and suppliers to ensure product quality requirements are met. The role plays a key part in building and sustaining core quality systems while balancing production pace, compliance, and real-world manufacturing constraints. Expected to perform tasks with minimal supervision and provide assistance to lower level quality engineers and specialists. This role reports directly to the Manager, Quality Assurance.

Primary Responsibilities:

  1. Implement methods to inspect, test, and evaluate the reliability of manufacturing processes, products, and production equipment, ensuring they follow applicable design and regulatory requirements.
  2. Lead problem-solving investigations to establish point-of-cause and ensure effective containment, root cause analysis, corrective action, validation, control, and recurrence prevention utilizing RCA techniques (e.g., 5-Why, fish-bone diagrams).
  3. Work with cross-functional teams to create, modify, and execute APQP (Advanced Product Quality Planning) documents, including Process Flow, PFMEA, and Control Plans.
  4. Take a lead role in the execution of Gauge R&R, capability analysis, dimensional verification, and visual aids.
  5. Own supplier and component qualification efforts, performing on-site Quality Management System (QMS) and EHS&S assessments, as well as PPAP reviews and approvals.
  6. Strengthen supplier quality performance by addressing Cost of Poor Quality (CoPQ), supporting Material Review Board (MRB) activities, and driving corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to resolution.
  7. Perform quality system audits related to products and processes. May host outside auditors and customers
  8. Lead continuous improvement initiatives by advancing quality processes, contributing to supplier scorecards, and executing targeted quality improvement projects.
  9. Collaborate with Engineering to create validation strategies, participate in design reviews, and embed quality discipline throughout the product lifecycle.
  10. Prepare reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing quality data to evaluate process reliability.
  11. Assure that technical regulations and standards defined by engineering drawings and technical specifications are met.
  12. Draft, revise and release technical procedures and work instructions
  13. Act as a liaison between management, engineering, and suppliers on quality issues, working to resolve customer complaints.
  14. Works independently and collaboratively, demonstrating leadership in all aspects of Quality.
  15. Provides quality engineering mentoring to lower level quality engineers and specialists.
  16. Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational seminars and workshops, reviewing professional publications and participating in professional societies.
  17. Maintains the confidentiality of all information processed.

Performs related duties as assigned.  Regular and consistent attendance is required.

Domestic or international travel to conduct surveillance audits and on-site supplier assessments will be required.

Job Qualifications:

REQUIRED:  Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or equivalent work experience in lieu of degree. Four years or more experience as a Quality Engineer. Knowledge of organizational structure, culture, and industry practices.

 PREFERRED: Certifications such as Certified Quality Engineer (CQE), Six Sigma Green Belt/Black Belt and Lead Auditor

 

Compensation: The pay range for this position is $82,454 to $103,057 per year. May increase depending on the level of experience of the candidate.
