This position is responsible for supervising the day-to-day operations of a wastewater treatment plant and related infrastructure.
Position Duties
- Maintains maintenance and chemical analysis records; prepares logs, records, and reports, including required local, state, and federal reports; files reports with the state government per permit requirements.
- Ensures compliance with all state and federal permit requirements and regulations; develops and implements plant policies and procedures.
- Makes rounds of plants; reads gauges and meters; records readings; makes process adjustments.
- Oversees maintenance and repair on a variety of mechanical and electrical equipment, including pumps, motors, controllers, valves, charts, and plant instrumentation.
- Directs the installation of water and sewer taps.
- Directs the resolution of customer concerns or complaints.
- Directs the collection of samples; performs laboratory analysis to ensure that treatment facilities are operating efficiently; supervises and carries out corrective actions.
- Trains, assigns, supervises, evaluates, and disciplines personnel.
- Purchases equipment, materials, and supplies.
- Responds to or assists with after-hours emergencies when needed.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of department and county policies and procedures, and federal, state, and local laws and regulations.
- Knowledge of wastewater treatment plant principles, operations, and equipment.
- Knowledge of chemistry, mathematics, and biology.
- Skill in the operation and maintenance of mechanical and electronic equipment.
- Skill in planning, organization, and decision-making.
- Skill in the supervision of personnel.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
- Ability to communicate orally and in writing in the English language and orally in the Spanish language.
Minimum Qualifications
- Must have a high school diploma or GED from an accredited institution.
- Must have at least ( 1 ) year of related work experience.
- Possession of or ability to readily obtain an appropriate state-certified license for water or wastewater treatment or distribution, as appropriate.

Other Requirements/Information
- Must possess a valid and current Texas driver's license.
- The Webb County Drug and Alcohol Policy applies to this position. Pre-employment drug and alcohol testing, a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) check, and a criminal background check are required.
- This position is covered under Civil Service; however, all other Webb County policies apply.
