Job Description

The Maize Special Education Cooperative is seeking a full-time early childhood special education teacher. The mornings will be Maize ECC and the afternoons will be at Andale Elementary ECC.

Maize has a lot to offer teachers new to the district and those who are new to the profession.  All new teachers are matched with a qualified mentor, and both the mentor and mentee are supported by our team of Student Support Specialists and Instructional Coaches.  New teachers also participate in half-day professional development opportunities throughout the school year. 

Our teachers are encouraged to continue to learn and grow.  Professional learning days are well planned and cover relevant and timely topics.   We also offer a professional learning series that qualifies for college credits and tuition reimbursement for a Master’s degree.

Job Description
Job Title: Teacher Exemption Status: Exempt
Reports to: Principal Date Revised: December 2023
Primary Purpose:
To support the District’s vision to create a student-centered environment where all members of the
school-community are empowered to participate and thrive academically, civically, and socially through
relevant educational experiences to achieve and fulfill their life’s purpose.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Bachelor’s degree in education and active Kansas teaching license
Special Knowledge/Skills: Knowledge of content and instructional strategies, excellent
organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to instruct students and
manage their behavior; ability to present information one-on-one, small group, and
large group situations to students, families, and district staff
Experience:
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
● Instruct assigned classes in the locations and at the times designated.
● Plan a program of study that meets the individual needs, interests, and abilities of the students.
● Create a classroom environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity
and interests of the students.
● Prepare for classes assigned, and show written evidence of preparation upon request of the
administration.
● Encourage students to set and maintain standards of classroom behavior.
● Guide the learning process toward the achievement of curriculum standards by establishing clear
objectives for all lessons, units and projects and communicate these objectives to students.
● Employ a variety of instructional techniques, technology, and instructional media, consistent
with the physical limitations of the location provided and the needs and capabilities of the
individuals or student groups involved.
● Strive to implement by instruction and action the district’s philosophy of education and
instructional standards.
● Assess the accomplishments of students on a regular basis and provide progress reports as
required.
● Continually assess the needs of students and refer to the appropriate building level individual(s)
when learning concerns have been identified.
● Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and
facilities.
● Maintain accurate, complete, and correct records as required by the teachers negotiated
agreement, Board of Education policy, administrative regulation, and laws of the state of Kansas.
● Assist the administration in implementing all policies and rules governing students. Develop
reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedure.
● Make provision for being available to students and parents for education-related purposes when
required or requested at mutually agreeable times.
● Plan and supervise purposeful assignments for paraprofessionals and volunteer(s), and provide
feedback to the building principal as to their performances.
● Work cooperatively with staff on various tasks and/or assignments.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and phone,
standard classroom technology including computer and peripherals
Posture: Prolonged standing, frequent walking, pushing/pulling, occasional kneeling/squatting,
occasional bending/stooping
Motion: Frequent keyboarding and use of mouse, occasional reaching
Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds), occasional lifting of heavy
objects
Environment: Primarily indoors; some outdoor student supervision
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions, maintain emotional control under stress,
solve problems, Make decisions
Attendance: Must maintain regular and acceptable attendance/punctuality as required by the Board of
Education policies and regulations.
Clearances: Background check, drug screen, TB test
