     Education:

    Certification Required:

    • Current Texas License Issued by Texas Board of Nurse examiners. Applicants currently licensed in another state will be considered but must obtain Texas licensure prior to employment.

     

    Experience:

    • Minimum of two years administrative and supervisory work experience in nursing practice, preferably in t he community health field.

    Function

    The Director of Student Health Services provides leadership in the development, implementation, and coordination of a comprehensive program of students health services for the District, in accordance with the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas Nursing Practice Act and Nursing Peer Review Act, Board Policies, federal, state, and local health statutes and regulations. Participates in nursing policy formulation and decision-making.

    Chief Officer of Accountability and Student Support Services

     

    Responsibilities:

    • Interpret objectives and policies of the health services program to all concerned.
    • Interpret school health policies regarding immunizations, communicable diseases, medication, and emergency care of the ill and injured.
    • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of the health services program and implement changes based on findings.
    • Recommend policies to encourage program involvement.
    • Provide assistance to Student Health Services staff by telephone, e-mail, and on-site visits in all components of managing health care community to promote optimum delivery of health care services to students.
    • Serves as health advocate for the students.
    • Possesses full range of knowledge and skills to identify and assess student health needs.
    • Help in the development of a health care plan for special needs students.
    • Implement or delegate the student health care plan for acute, chronic, and emergency health problems, including appropriate referral and follow-up.
    • Evaluate outcome of the health care plan.
    • Provide relevant counseling and guidance to assist student health services staff, students, and parents in assuming responsibility for health maintenance.
    • Work with the student health services staff and the medical and health care community to promote optimum delivery of health care services to students.
    • Maintains confidentiality and adheres to board policy.
    • Develops the District's Student Health Services program in compliance with nursing standards as defined by the Board of Nurse Examiners for the State of Texas Nursing Practice Act including the Standard of Nursing Practice (Rule 217.11), Delegation Rules (Rule 224 & 225) and the Nursing Peer Review Act.
    • Performs other job-related duties as assigned by the Chief Officer of Accountability and Student Support Services

    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Supervises Student Health Services staff throughout the District.
    • Coordinate the planning and implementation of in-service programs and staff meetings for Student Health Services staff.
    • Gives guidance and assistance to Student Health Services staff in providing direct services as well as preventive developmental health education to students and families.
    • Work with appropriate administrators to identify Student Health Services staffing needs to accomplish program goals and to meet the needs of students.
    • Orient the Student Health Services staff to the overall philosophy, policies, and procedures of the school health program.
    • Monitor, coordinate, and evaluate the provision of health services necessary to meet individual student health needs essential in achieving education objectives.
    • Coordinator for the district School Health Advisory Council (SHAC)
    • Serves as the district Coordinator for emergency medications including opioid antagonist and Epinephrine
    • Serves as a member of the Safety and Security team, threat assessment team, ADA and Sick leave bank committees.
