    Pattonville School District is seeking a passionate and dedicated Reading teacher  to join our team. The ideal candidate will inspire young learners, foster a love of learning, and support students in becoming responsible and engaged citizens.

    Position Summary: The Reading Teacher, under the general supervision of the school principal, supports student success by implementing district-approved reading curriculum, providing targeted instruction to meet individual student needs, and monitoring and documenting student progress. The Reading Teacher creates a safe, flexible, and supportive learning environment and communicates effectively with students, parents/guardians, and administrators regarding progress, expectations, and instructional goals.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

    • Designs and delivers reading curriculum aligned with district goals, objectives, and instructional standards.
    • Provides high-quality instruction using appropriate instructional materials and strategies to maximize student learning and instructional time.
    • Establishes and maintains a safe, inclusive, and engaging learning environment that supports whole-group, small-group, and individualized instruction.
    • Monitors and assesses student progress on an ongoing basis and adjusts instructional methods to meet individual student learning needs.
    • Maintains accurate, complete, and timely records of student achievement, progress, and attendance in accordance with district and building procedures and policies.
    • Implements and enforces school and district behavior expectations to promote a positive and effective learning environment.
    • Builds and maintains effective communication with students and parents/guardians to encourage family engagement and support student success.
    • Collaborates with colleagues and other staff members to support instructional goals and student learning.
    • Participates in faculty meetings, professional learning communities, and district/building initiatives.
    • Engages in ongoing professional development through seminars, workshops, meetings, and research to remain current with educational best practices and instructional methodologies.



    Qualifications: 

    • Bachelors or masters degree from an accredited college or university.
    • Missouri Special Reading K-12 certification       
    • Strong classroom management and communication skills.
    • Commitment to equity, diversity, and student success.

     

    Additional Duties:

    • Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal(s).

    Travel Requirements:

    • Travels to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

    • Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, as well as differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
    • Knowledge of elementary school reading curriculum and concepts.
    • Ability to use learning software applications as needed.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians.
    • Ability to engage in self-evaluation with regard to performance and professional growth.
    • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others.

    Work Hours: 7.25 hours per day; five days a week

    Work calendar: 189 days (current 2025-2026 calendar)

    FLSA Status:   Exempt

    Salary: Commensurate with years of full-time teaching experience. Service credit is awarded on a year-by-year basis, with a maximum of 20 years recognized. (Certified Teacher Salary Schedule 2026-2027)
