Summary
The Water Maintenance Technician II performs semi-skilled to skilled work related to the operation, inspection, maintenance, and repair of municipal water distribution infrastructure. This role requires demonstrated technical proficiency and is typically filled through internal promotion from Technician I, or by candidates with direct related industry experience. Work is performed under the supervision of the Water Foreman.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
The following duties are representative of the work performed in this position and are not intended to be all-inclusive.
- Perform monthly water shut-offs.
- Install, replace, and maintain water meters.
- Conduct system pressure checks; identify, locate, and repair water leaks within the distribution system.
- Perform the annual fire hydrant flushing program, including associated maintenance and repairs.
- Conduct valve exercising programs and complete repairs as needed.
- Perform utility locates for water mains, service lines, meters, valves, and Town-owned fiber optic infrastructure.
- Assist with repairs of water main and service line breaks as directed.
- Assist with the collection of water samples in accordance with established procedures and regulatory requirements.
- Support inspections related to certifications of occupancy.
- Operate a variety of light and heavy equipment in the performance of assigned duties.
- Perform routine pre- and post-operation safety inspections; conduct minor maintenance on vehicles and equipment; maintain accurate inspection and maintenance records.
- Promote a culture of safety by adhering to all Town and Department safety policies and procedures.
- Perform duties requiring the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), including work in confined spaces requiring ventilation to mitigate exposure to hazardous gases or fumes.
- Enter, update, and complete work orders in the Town's work order management system.
- Accurately enter and interpret data within asset management systems, including processing service orders and utility billing requests.
- Respond to customer inquiries and complaints as directed by the Water Foreman, maintaining professionalism and effective communication.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with Town staff and the public.
- Assist in the training and mentoring of Level I Technicians as directed by the Foreman.
- Assist the Streets Division with snow removal operations during winter months.
- Participate in the set-up and tear-down of Town events and festivals as assigned.
- Work a rotating on-call schedule, providing after-hours, weekend, and holiday support to multiple divisions as needed.
- May be required to work overtime, varied shifts, weekends, and during emergency situations.

- Knowledge of maintenance, operation, and proper safety protocols of small engine machinery

- Strong problem-solving skills that include the ability to analyze and resolve a variety of issues and recognize when to escalate

- Ability to use standard office equipment, computers, tablets, and software, including the basic use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, GIS mapping, and databases
- Ability to keep the workplace clean and organized, equipment clean and serviced, and take care of Town-owned assets appropriately
- Ability to work both collaboratively and independently
- Ability to monitor SCADA (supervisory control and data acquisition) system(s) to ensure stability, security, and performance of industrial processes. With support, respond to alarms and abnormalities.
- Knowledge of the techniques and materials used in the maintenance and repair of, but not limited to, streets, storm drains, water lines, and repairs.
- Knowledge of and ability to detect the defects and faults likely to occur in construction, maintenance, and repair work.
Education and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent is required
- Two (2) years of previous water maintenance experience with a municipal water supplier/distribution system is required
- For promotion to this level, you must possess a minimum of two (2) years as a Water Technician I with the Town of Firestone
- An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
Licenses/Certifications:
- Must possess and maintain a valid Colorado driver's license, obtain a Class B CDL within one (1) year of employment, and maintain a safe driving record throughout employment
- Candidates hired as a Technician II from an external agency must possess or obtain Flagger certification within three (3) months of hire. All current employees in this classification are required to maintain a valid Flagger certification throughout their employment
- Candidates hired as a Technician II from an external agency must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Confined Space certification within one (1) year of hire. All current employees in this classification are required to maintain a Confined Space certification throughout their employment
- Candidates hired as a Technician II from an external agency must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a CSU Pesticide Technician Certificate within one (1) year of hire. All current employees in this classification are required to maintain a CSU Pesticide Certificate throughout their employment
- Candidates hired as a Technician II from an external agency must possess or be able to obtain and maintain a Backflow certification within one (1) year of hire. All current employees in this classification are required to maintain a Backflow certification throughout their employment
- Must possess a CCWP Class 2 in Water Distribution and all licenses and certifications required as held by a Maintenance Technician I.

Work is regularly performed outdoors and occasionally indoors, with frequent exposure to extreme temperatures and all-weather conditions. Work is performed year-round, with regular exposure to loud noise, heavy traffic, and hazardous situations. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate, though it can increase at times.
Body Movement:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands to
finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms, stand, walk, bend, stoop, or kneel. On rare occasions, the employee may be required to climb, crawl, and balance. The employee must be physically able to operate various motor vehicles. Employees must frequently lift and move up to 50 pounds.
Vision:
Employees must be able to consistently see with near and far acuity, depth perception, color vision, and field vision.
Hearing:
Employees must be able to hear, understand, and distinguish speech and other sounds (e.g., machinery, telephones, alarms); communicate clearly and effectively; understand and be understood; and consistently engage in ordinary conversations.
