In this leadership role, you will manage the activities of the LCRA transmission system shift and switching personnel at the System Operations Control Center (SOCC) to ensure consistent, safe, reliable, and economic operations. You’ll spend your time overseeing work quality and conformance with a variety of standards, including ERCOT protocols, NERC regulations, and LCRA policies and procedures. You will be expected to take a proactive approach to planning emergency and storm responses, actively leading the department through critical events as they unfold. Reporting directly to the Director of System Operations, you will lead a team of approximately one dozen direct and indirect reports, including transmission system operations supervisors who look to you for guidance and oversight.
How You’ll Contribute:
- Acts as a subject matter expert representing the department interests inside and outside the organization, including the future deployment of extra high voltage transmission systems (765kV) and synchronous condensors controlled by their staff.
- Provides leadership and direction to staff. Provides guidance, planning, and technical advice to operations personnel.
- Works with engineering, coordination, field operations management, and technical support staff on operational issues such as equipment outages, scheduled maintenance, operational procedures, and safety.
- Hires, directs training, assigns work, evaluates and manages performance. Maintains awareness of department issues and responds to employee needs and concerns.
- Communicates with employees to ensure accurate and timely dissemination of information.
- Responds to department needs and communicating issues outside of typical business hours.
- Develop and execute long term employee development and retention initiatives.
How You’re Qualified:
- Twelve or more years of experience in transmission system operations, planning or engineering, or other relevant experience, including two or more years of experience supervising employees.
- A degree(s) in math, computer science, engineering, or relevant field may be substituted per LCRA guidelines for certain years of experience.
- Driver's license
How You’ll Stand Out:
- NERC Certification.
- Transmission operations leadership experience.
- EHV (345kV and up) operating experience.
