Nichols Middle School Additional Information: Show/Hide - Provide instruction and behavior instruction to students; work with individual students or small groups.
- Conduct or assist with the completion of Functional Behavior Assessments (FBA) on the campus
- Maintain and monitor student data for students placed in the behavior intervention room
- Implement, monitor and support the implementation of the IEP, as written, for students in the behavior intervention classroom.
- Utilize strategies to de-escalate students in classrooms or behavior intervention classroom.
- Work with students with behaviors or disruptive behavior removals in classroom.
- Co-plan with general education teachers to support academic instruction in the behavior classroom.
- Lead social skill lessons.
- Provide direct instruction to students in a small group or individual setting.
- Model de escalation techniques and discipline strategies for teachers when needed.
- Collaborate with teachers, curriculum department and campus administration to develop aligned social lessons and behavior strategies.
- Manage and distribute discipline management resources/tools to teachers and provide training on the use of those resources.
- Observes and gives feedback to teachers to adjust interventions as necessary.
- Assist teachers with writing behavior improvement plans.
- Assist with the implementation and adjustment of behavior improvement plans.
- Assist with escorting students to and from classes.
- Work with students in the classroom to role model appropriate behaviors.
- Assist with end of the day checkouts and homework checks.

Minimum Salary: $60,000 + Stipend
Primary Purpose:
Meet the criteria for highly qualified teaching standards. Work with general education staff to provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject areas assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Work with teachers and campus administration to analyze student discipline data and other campus data as
designated, diagnose needs and identify research-based strategies to improve student behavior.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Bachelor's degree from accredited university
Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements or required training for subject and level assigned
Valid Special Education Certification
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Ability to work with children with disabilities
Ability to work with students with emotional disturbance and related behavior concerns
Ability to follow and implement an IEP, as written
Ability to utilize deescalation techniques and physical restraints aligned with district response program
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
Ability to communicate effectively
Experience:
At least one year student teaching or approved internship
