Grain Elevator Operator

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work:

This is a full-time position. Typical days and hours of work are Monday through Friday 7:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Some flexibility in hours is allowed, but the employee must be available during the peak work hours. From September until November hours will be extended and could be 6-7 days a week.

 

Location:  Sangerfield, NY

 

Pay: $18-$22/hour based on experience

  • As a Grain Elevator General Labor Operator you must work safely within company policy, procedures, and governmental regulations and fully participate in company safety programs
  • Dump and load grain trucks safely.
  • Daily Housekeeping activity and record keeping.
  • Participate and observe grain handling operations.
  • Assist in mobile equipment operation.
  • Basic tasks on railcar loading team – car tops, bottom gates, and sealing
  • Assist in preventative maintenance and millwright operations.
  • Participate in weekly Safety Training.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Work Environment for the Grain Elevator General Labor:

This job operates in an outdoor environment. There is exposure to grain dust, weather elements, heavy truck and machinery activity.  Includes working at heights up to 16’.   Harnesses and other safety equipment are required in some situations, must be willing/able to perform task while wearing these items.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and reach with hands and arms. Must be able to work in confined spaces, climb ladders, handle heights up to 16 feet, and work in all weather conditions. This is a manual labor job. Must be able to lift up to 40 pounds repetitively. Must be safety oriented.

Requirements

Required Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Basic computer skills to navigate internet for online education.
  • Ability to communicate with customers and employees alike.
  • Mathematical concepts – percentages, decimals, multiplication preferred.
  • Basic mechanical and electrical knowledge preferred.
  • General Code of Operating Rules, Lone Worker, and Railroad Safety Certification preferred.

  • Excellent people skills, with an ability to collaborate with a team.
  • Flexible and able to multitask; can work within a fast-moving environment;
  • Ability to work long hours on a flexible schedule including weekends, holidays and evenings.
